kiddingguy
Just a question... on an old DELL Latitude E4310 can higher DDR3 memory speeds than 1066 also be applied? The max RAM is 8 GB, but some higher speeds like 12800 are somewhat cheaper.... goretsky Supervisor Posted September 16, 2021 Supervisor Share Posted September 16, 2021 Hello, Generally speaking, faster speeds of DDR3 SO-DIMMs are backwards-compatible with slower speeds, and will just run at that speed when installed in a system that cannot use the faster speed. You can check with the memory manufacturer to verify this for a specific part number you are interested in (if you have that). Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted September 16, 2021 Yeah, technically you can use faster RAM. Just your system may not be able to use the faster speed. If it's cheaper, get 'em. Jason S. Global Moderator Posted September 17, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted September 17, 2021 more likely than not, a locked down Dell laptop will automatically set the speed and timings of the RAM. You wont be able to change that. Expand Yes, but he can still use it at a lower speed, Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1411374-dell-latitude-e4310-ram-higher-than-1066-possible/#findComment-598677135 Share on other sites
