Call of Duty: Cold War - Better than Modern Warfare (at least, in my opinion)

Destiny 2

Gears of War 5

Doom: Eternal

Titanfall 2

Rocket League

Thank you so much for these suggestions! I will most definitely start trying all of these out. Time to dive into some youtube videos on each first.

I suggest taking a peak at Final Fantasy XIV. They offer a generous free trial if I recall. If you like story-driven games then that I think you may enjoy.

Edit: To clarify, Final Fantasy XIV is a MMORPG that is story-driven and gates new areas behind story progression. A new expansion is launching in November and in my experience the community is one of the least toxic communities I've ever seen for MMOs. You don't really need to know too much about any other Final Fantasy games to get in to it. It references a lot from other FF games but not knowing them shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the game.

Mafia (series)...

-Mafia (2002) (still my #1 video game experience to date. I replay this here and there as the years pass and it never fails to deliver a top notch experience. but when I replay this for a while now I have been using a unlimited draw distance mod and a wide screen fix which makes it display in a proper aspect ratio on modern resolutions like 1080p etc)

-Mafia II (2010) (and the Definitive Editon (2020) which gives a small boost to overall graphics but at the same time it's got some bugs. so overall a new comer to the series I would probably go with the original 2010 version overall)

-Mafia III (2016) (even though this is the worst of the series overall, it's underrated)

-Mafia: Definitive Edition (2020) (a remake of the original 2002 version. the original is still superior overall but this is a nice graphics boost etc. but the three main characters ain't as interesting in this as in the original which mainly comes back to the voice acting as Tommy/Paulie/Sam is just superior in the original vs this remake which is partially why the original is better. but I do feel they did Salieri/Frank justice though in this remake. even in terms of look... Tommy(main character)/Paulie/Sam are a bit too altered vs original where as Salieri/Frank you can tell who they are).

the Mafia series is superior to the overrated GTA series if you ask me. because in terms of playing through the single player, which is what these games are all about, the Mafia series are games I replay from time-to-time as the years pass where as the GTA series, while good enough to playthrough once, don't have the lasting impact on me like the Mafia games do and I have no urge to replay those. sure, you can see GTA has a big budget etc, but they just don't have the magic that the Mafia series does. Mafia (2002) is a masterpiece (a word I rarely use) as it's my #1 video game experience to date (even to this very day I can honestly say it's #1 (even though graphics are obviously showing it's age but the overall experience is still top notch).

since the OP mentioned it... I used to be a rather big fan of the Hitman series (which I have been playing since the old days when each was new basically (2000/2002/2004/2006 etc)). but looking back on it... that series peaked for me with Hitman Contracts (2004) (i.e. the 3rd game of the series). I did play Hitman Blood Money (2006) (the 4th game of the series) but after that I pretty much lost interest in the series as I played a bit of Hitman Absolution (2012) (the 5th game of the series) but never finished it and a little of Hitman (2016) but never really had any urge to finish it etc.

also, I think the Call of Duty series has been pretty much the same ol' crap for many years now. in the old days I remember liking the series a little but lost interest in that shortly after. I was never a big fan of this series though for whatever that's worth. but it seems like everytime a new one comes out the "reviewers" overpraise it. even in terms of multiplayer shooters... Counter-Strike is definitely my clear cut #1 long term as I used to play that pretty heavily back from 2000 through about mid-2000's or so.

Guild Wars 2, especially if you like Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)

The base game & World Story 1 are now free so you can jump in before buying the latter expansions / world stories.

The base game is designed to get you to level 80, all content after that is designed for level 80.

Then I would recommend playing Morrowind.

I am currently playing it on OpenBSD and it is still a fun game in 2024.

Many people think it is the best RPG ever made.
