ShawnB
[Ranger's owner] Hicks wasn't interested in baseball value -- a fact that should tick off Rangers fans. He was just looking to get out from under ARod's contract. The Red Sox were going to trade a player who made 20 million a year and the Yanks offered one that makes only 5 mil/yr. This deal is a good one for New York and for the Rangers' Owner, but the Rangers team and fanbase got screwed. Oh and we're pretty upset about it in Boston too :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/141262-mlb-rumor/page/2/#findComment-1735863 Share on other sites

BMac
It's all but final. All the yanks need now is Selig's blessing. New York and Texas finalized the terms of a trade Sunday, and the players' association gave its approval. The last hurdle was for commissioner Bud Selig to sign off on a deal, a high-ranking baseball official told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. The Rangers will pay $67 million of the $179 million left on the AL MVP's record contract. Texas will get all-star second baseman Alfonso Soriano and a player to be named. Read the entire article: here. CatnipOligarchy
You people need to stop crying. George puts his money back into the team. If these corporations that owned teams did the same, they could afford all this talent too. these other teams dont generate the revenue generated by the Yankees. The Yankees play in the biggest market in America so they are able to generate this massive revenue. Smaller market teams like minnesota, pittsburgh, kansas city, couldnt put that much money into their team if they wanted to, because its just not there. The luxury tax was a step in the right direction, but baseball needs a salary cap. It has worked wonders for the NFL. The Yankees are a disgrace to team sports. bangbang023 Veteran Posted February 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 16, 2004 The Yankees are a disgrace to team sports. Steinbrenner has the drive and the smarts. He gets players he knows work well in a team enviroment and, if they don't, he ships them out. The Yankees are the epitome of what a team can be when the owner wants to win bad enough. CatnipOligarchy
Steinbrenner has the drive and the smarts. He gets players he knows work well in a team enviroment and, if they don't, he ships them out. The Yankees are the epitome of what a team can be when the owner wants to win bad enough. Steinbrenner picks out the best individual players from throughout the league, and now throughout the world, and throws them on the field together. He doesnt take chemistry into consideration, as long as they win the world series. If a player is great in the community and a great clubhouse leader, but if he gets into a long enough slump, away he goes. If the Yankees dont win the World Series, Steinbrenner places the blame on anyone in sight, even if that person is Joe Torre, who has led them to 6 AL Pennants and 4 World Series titles in the last 8 years. ....
Same thing could be said about football. As a huge Cowboy fan, I loved the Cowboys in the early 90's (for obvious reasons). With the salary cap, free agency, etc, the days of NFL dynasties are done. I hated it, cause the Boy's could have run the proverbial table in the 90's with such a young team. We all know, Jerry would have paid a fortune to keep that team together. Baseball needs the same thing. Salary cap, revenue sharing....it should be implemented, or teams like Montreal and Minnesota can compete again. BOOG's $0.02. Salary cap would mean the end of baseball for a long time. Its way to late for this. No player would want a paycut like that. Union would strike till the cap is removed. Union would strike till the cap is removed. Kinda like what's happening in Montreal? The Yankees have a payroll for their INFIELD of well over 300 Million dollars. That's more payroll for 4 players than almost half of Baseball. That's without.......a second baseman. There's a problem with that. A big problem. Let them strike. They would only hurt themselves, proving that money, not the love of the game drives them. And people seriously wonder why the NFL is America's new pastime. Union would strike till the cap is removed. the only players that would strike are the ones with 15+ million a year contracts that are in the game for the money rather than the love of the game. Baseball needs more players like ARod who are willing to take a pay cut for the betterment of baseball. Let them strike, let the players with less pay play on, and call up kids from the minors. The stars will realize they have nowhere else to play and they will come down to earth and baseball will be a better game forever. Teams like the Yankees are ruining baseball. Part of the reason the NFL is so strong is because there are 32 very strong fan bases, and at the beginning of every season, every fan thinks their team has a legitimate shot at the playoffs or a title, and rightfully so. You couldnt find 100 Tampa Bay Devil Rays fans that honestly think their team even has an outside shot at making the playoffs next year. That is not right. I love baseball. Its my favorite sport without a doubt, but somethings gotta be done. This is only going to get worse. shafi
why are you worried ?? Your atlanta team went to playoff like 12 times and only one once. Blew many times.
