Cyplex
This my current built back in 2016/17, primarily for gaming (Battlefield, PUBG) Thinking of upgrading two items for the new Battlefield 2042 coming out: 1. Video card, thinking of going to a RTX 3800 Ti or ATI 6900XT for 4K gaming. 2. Monitor, most likely going to an ASUS ROG Swift PG43UQ 43” 4K or LG C1 49" OLED. Ps. the PSU was a power overkill but I got too good of a deal to pass it up. Any opinions? Other upgrades? Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted November 8, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted November 8, 2021 (edited) I'd wait off the GPU, as prices are very high right now. I would up your memory (yes, I know you have 4x8GB) Maybe not to a higher Gb number, but maybe faster RAM? I'd get that CPU upgraded, too. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't know if that CPU is supported by Win 11. Don't quote me on that. Good job on that UPS.. 😁 A lot of people don't consider that when building. 👍 Cyplex 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1412714-upgrade-opinion/#findComment-598689204 Share on other sites
Xahid
Your current build is powerful enough to accompany Battlefield, and other games (minus DLSS) but DLSS not worth the current price hike of GPU's Monitor is personal choice but LG C1 49" OLED looks great. astropheed Veteran Posted November 8, 2021 Veteran Share Posted November 8, 2021 I personally wouldn't upgrade to a 3080 Ti from a 1080. Unless you need the tensor cores or ray tracing. Or money means nothing to you. They're just too expensive. I just went from a 970 to a 3070 and that was a difference. But honestly, I wouldn't have done it if it weren't for my 970 starting to crap out and crash my PC fairly often. Which I can wait for until the videocard market settles down. I'm not interested in investing into the >MSRP inflation.. 🙈 Thanks everyone for the input 🍺 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1412714-upgrade-opinion/#findComment-598689209 Share on other sites
hellowalkman Reporter Posted November 8, 2021 Reporter Share Posted November 8, 2021 I'd honestly just lower the settings for now and upgrade to a GPU later. Wam7
If you have the money then that's exactly what you need to be getting. The fact you are wanting to change monitor to a 4K one then you will need to change the GPU. Out of the monitors you've suggested I'd definitely get the LG C1 OLED. The HDR is much better than the ROG. I've got the 65" OLED and it is something else, very impressive. As to GPU I'd go with Nvidia just for the better ray tracing and DLSS. Wait for Cyber Monday to see what deals are around and spend that cash! (Unless you have a better use for it!) Everything else in your system is fine. No need to change memory or CPU as you will be GPU limited at 4K and your CPU is fast enough with it's 8 cores, same for the memory, not worth changing that. Jim K Global Moderator Posted November 8, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted November 8, 2021 Might have luck with the NewEgg shuffle (that is how I got my 3080ti) ... or sign up for the eVGA queue. Other than that ... GPU prices are stupid right now with no signs of becoming unstupid. goretsky Supervisor Posted November 10, 2021 Supervisor Share Posted November 10, 2021 Hello, If you would like to keep using the existing system, you might want to consider looking into replacing the CPU. A ten-core Intel Core i9-10900X CPU should easily work with your existing motherboard (a BIOS upgrade may be required) and cooling solution. Cyplex
Well....I got the C1, what an upgrade👍. The colors and immersion is so good, definitely worth it if anyone else is considering it. I had to turn down my visuals because the 1080 chugs with a lot of commotion but it's okay until I can get my hands on a reasonably priced RTX.
