Exhaust Fan Question

Recommended Posts

Wondering  Whats the best way to determine the Fan is correctly setup as Exhaust?   I know some fans have arrows, and some don't,   Replaced my Main Desktops original Exhaust fan with a Noctua a while back,  though now seeing more dust internally that i was seeing before

Noctua 120MM Exhaust

Original was a Standard Thermaltake 120MM Exhaust in rear of the case

CPU Cooler is Still Intel Stock Cooler til can afford stuff needed to finally replace that

Dust clean outs done about every 2-3 months

Or Should i put back in the original Thermaltake Exhaust fan after fully cleaning it, maybe the newer one RPM is way higher than old one was--not really sure

NO Top Fans, as don't have 2 120MM or 2 140 yet to put up there temporarily til i get the CPU Cooler replaced with Tower Style cooler, probably Mugen 5 Black Edition that i know will fit into case,  CPU Height permitted in Case 160MM--Mugen 5 154-155mm for CPU height, so should work fine

Fan blades are concave in shape. As noted here in this pic, the red shows the top of the blade, and the blue shows the direction of air flow.

Even if you spin a fan manually, you should tell which direction the air is going. If you want this fan to be an exhaust fan, mount it with the concave portion (top of the blades) towards the inside of the case.

If you want to keep the dust level to a minimum, try not to lock the case down tight. Believe it or not, and open air case gathers a lot less dust then an enclosed one. Also.. try to keep the intake and exhaust fans the same size and quantity... to keep the air pressure within equal. Too much positive pressure bogs down the fans, while a negative one will strain them.

Gotta clean that soon as possible, starting to see dust show up on that part

Then check the rear fan to make sure it is setup for exhaust for sure, and such

Do Have Electric Duster

Seems to do an pretty good job if i remember to get all parts when i do the clean outs, sadly the last time was interrupted by Phone call, and forgot to finish up front of case that time,  but plan on getting it done tomorrow hopefully fully

Usually, it is the sticker side, the grille side, of the fan that goes out.

But yes, you want exhaust going out the back and top (if available). Hot air rises.

As long as you aren't seeing high temperatures, CPU/GPU, a little dust won't hurt anything. Make sure you thoroughly clean it..

Always Try to Thoroughly clean it at each dust clean out time.

Top is avaialble if i obtain 2 more fans for the Top

Temps seem fine for this CPU Cooler can cool to,  Video card idles at 39C when not gaming, no signs of throttling or overheating at this point

Issue mainly is as well can't get the Front cover to loosen, no matter what i do, tried pulling hard--nada,  tried pilers on the little tabs inside to get them loosen--nada,  blew my air duster up the hole from bottom, not sure if helped any,  qtipped as many of the fan blades as i could

Then got annoyed by RL text messages, so decided well guess will have to do for now, and try again next time i have some real life peace if ever any
