Emailing Word doc from an Expired Office 365 account

Question

My friend asked me this question and I don't know the answer so I'm asking you guys...he was using Outlook 365 which has expired. He wants to know if he were to email a Word document that he created with the now expired Office 365, would the recipient be able to read the document assuming they have Word installed on their computer. Or would his Office 365 being expired not allow that. Thanks in advance for your help.

if it's saved as a DOCX file and not using IRM yes... it's just a file

Exactly.  I transitioned from a trial Office license to a subscription (Microsoft 365 Personal) last year, but kept the same ID I had been using (that predates Office 365); basically, it mattered not a whit.  I recommend 365 Personal to all and sundry for other reasons, and I call it the SaaS bargain for individual users - due to OneDrive - not Office.
