Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

The wife never watched Harry Potter, so I'm rewatching with her. I've never been so annoyed at enjoying a movie so much. It's got more plot holes than a cheese grater, the magic is totally arbitrary, and Hogwarts makes zero sense as a school for kids. I want to hate it. But dang, it's just so much fun to watch. At least for me personally. The pacing seems good, the characters are great, and the story -- stupid as it is -- is entertaining.

Bullet Train - I didn't care for it at first but starting enjoying it after first 20 - 30 minutes or so. 7/10

Same, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

Almost turned this off half way in but I decided to stick with it, which I now regret. Although the premise is far fetched, the decision making by most of the people in the film was more far fetched than the existence of a giant troll. I dozed off a few times and had to rewind as well. Didn't like it and was hoping for a decent pay off that never came IMDB rating: 5.8 | Stevie rating: 4 (for the idea and effects)

It's on Netflix.

After that awful film I watched Violent Night. Really enjoyed it, I felt this could have easily been a PG film, the gorey parts were funny at first but you quickly realize that the film could have reached a wider audience if they decided not to include them. I definitely got a few chuckles out of the film. It delivers a message that is absolutely directed at kids, but it isn't a kids film, so go figure. It includes a lot of inspiration from "Home Alone" and the "Die Hard" franchise IMDB rating 6.9 | Stevie rating 8

It is available via Amazon Prime to rent https://amzn.to/3VwouAU (Neowin affiliate link) and in Theaters.

Violent Night - I thought this was surprisingly good and all our family enjoyed it, even my mum despite the excessive swearing / violence.

As Steven P mentioned it takes a lot of inspiration from Die Hard / Home Alone, with a bit of Christmas magic thrown in on top. The references to Home Alone were pretty funny too.

I'd give it 7/10, the film would certainly have more of a wider appeal if the violence / language was toned down a bit, I don't feel it really adds anything of value to the film after a while.

The original Logan's Run. It was awful, but I just couldn't stop.

I actually lined up for hours to see it on the opening day in 1976! OMG, how dated it looks today! All that chrome and bright colors! 😲
