Angel Blue01
I'm making a new PC build repurposing an old case. The case has some USB 3.0 ports on the top that have been very useful. The new motherboard on the other hand has USB 3.2 gen 2 headers and doesn't have any 3.0 headers. It is possible to plug in the 3.0 connectors on the 3.2 headers and have working 3.0 ports? I understand that at best the 3.0 ports would function at 3.0 speed. Thanks. Jim K Global Moderator Posted March 11, 2022 Global Moderator Share Posted March 11, 2022 What motherboard did you get? There are adapters to go from the smaller type e (?) header to the larger 20 pin header....if that is what you're wanting? Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted March 11, 2022 Global Moderator Share Posted March 11, 2022 All USB is back compatible. It's only limited by the devivce's speed. I have my keyboard (usb 2.0) into my USB 3.0 ports. Works completely fine. Your 3.2 device will also work with 3.0. Your only issue will be transfer rates and so on. The motherboard is a MSI B560M-A PRO and the case is a Fractal Design Define R5, I want to be able to use the USB 3.0 ports with the new motherboard Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1416252-usb-30-connectors-on-32-gen-2-motherboard-headers/#findComment-598718695 Share on other sites
Jim K Global Moderator Posted March 12, 2022 Global Moderator Share Posted March 12, 2022 You plug the front USB header into this port... Sikh
If you need more USB 3 ports and dont have any on the back I/O and your front panel is obviously used and plugged into the USB 3 header, I would get a USB 3.0 PCI-E Card like this instead of trying to use the USB 3.2 (USB C) header by converting it via adapters to another USB 3 20 pin header. Just my 2 cents Jim K 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1416252-usb-30-connectors-on-32-gen-2-motherboard-headers/#findComment-598718712 Share on other sites
