Getting into Video Editing

Question

Hi, I film a lot of video when I travel - little clips and some longer.  I'd like to do something a bit more useful with them than just a bunch of mp4 files on my NAS, maybe put them into montages and so on.

I know how to use iMovie but would like to do things a little more interestingly - not only for these videos but also for my own personal learning.  Maybe things like if I have a video of a city scape, be able to point out places but have their label follow their motion.  Or use motion to cut from one scene to another (eg moving past a column, the cut is the moving column).

I have access to both Adobe Premier/AfterEffects and Final Cut Pro - any suggestions as to which direction I'm best taking?  Once suggested, I guess I'll follow a udemi or skillshare course.

FWIW - I'm using a Mac.

Thanks

OK, thanks for the suggestion.  Can you suggest why?

You can get the most useful features in the free version, it's UI is tailored to the workflow (cut/edit/colour correct etc) and I prefer using node systems than panels of settings.

I also found it to perform quite a lot better than Premiere.

To answer your original question directly though, if you want to do editing and grading - learn premiere, after effects has a lot of overlap in toolset but it isn't for editing really.
