But when I look at the Funny Picture thread, nothing appears. I can understand with "reacted" and yes, they show up. But "comment" They didn't comment anything.. Administrators Posted September 11, 2022 Administrators Share Posted September 11, 2022 The notifications were reset for everyone to the default setting of automatically follow when starting or commenting in a topic, as this was disabled before. Our forums are suffering from less posts and views thanks to unfriendly settings like that, our forum software is old, we first installed IPB in 2003 or 2004 I think and everything has been an update since then and new settings are sometimes not enabled at all, just like new features between forum versions, these have to be manually enabled sometimes. BTW, if the notification is in Bold, that s unread, your pic shows notifications that have been read. It's also possible that your notifications list suddenly populated with this new setting, giving you things you already read on your own, but future notifications should tell you about unread topics you've participated in. You can always turn these off here: https://www.neowin.net/forum/notifications/options/ but the new settings will take for all new members as default from here on out. Under "Manage Followed Content" I see there is a notification in there that nags me every time someone posted in that thread. I never remember following it.. cork1958 Posted September 12, 2022 Share Posted September 12, 2022 Was just coming here to see if anyone else was noticing these strange changes. I was getting e-mails to topics I wasn't even following and on the notifications when some one has replied to my comment, there is no reply to said comment. Also, if some one has reacted to a comment of mine, when clicking that notification, it doesn't take me to my comment to see who reacted. I believe I have correctly reset the setting about e-mails, but can't seem to fix other issue. I already deleted these, and I set it 3 time now to "do not send a notification" Something weird is going on. Does Dave have anything to do with this? Edit: I never set these threads to follow.. Brandon H Supervisor Posted September 13, 2022 Supervisor Share Posted September 13, 2022 yeah notification settings got a bit messed up over the weekend and it took a couple tries to get them right. Things should be good now though and stick with however you set them in the notification settings. As for as getting notifications of a comment only to not find it; it's likely those were spam bot replies. We have the forums set so we have to approve the first few posts of new members so the posts are auto hidden but while they DO auto hide they still trigger notifications and will also tend to show up on the mini spy for a brief moment. If the changes were made due to "Our forums are suffering from less posts and views thanks to unfriendly settings like that" I think it's going to suffer even more now. Steven, imagine making a comment in a popular thread such as funny pictures to come back two days later and have fifty or more notifications. You're right that it isn't world ending but it is annoying...for some of us. Mind you, it's a simple process to fix so first world problems and all of that.
