Breach
Hi all, I was patiently waiting for Windows 11 22H2 to reach me. Today, I got the prompt to "Download and Install". Yay. I clicked it, then almost immediately I got a failure message with an 0x8... error (didn't note it down 😞. I then clicked 'retry' nothing happened. I checked again for updates, and now WU only says that all updates are installed and I no longer get the prompt to download 22H2. Nothing in event log. Short of doing the update from the installation assistant, any ideas? Thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1421970-windows-11-22h2-didntt-install-and-prompt-gone/ Share on other sites
Christopher Andreason
there is also other ways to get Windows 22H2 version this example is based on selecting English (United States) as the language first visited websitehttps://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 choose there Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) Windows 11 multi-edition ISO then click on the Download button Select the product language English (United States) You'll need to choose the same language when you install Windows. To see what language you're currently using, go to Time and language in PC settings or Region in Control Panel. after that you will then get an iso file with the name Win11_22H2_English_x64v1.iso which is approximately 5 gigabytes in size possible that this also affects Microsoft says the safeguard currently blocks the update on all computers using the Microsoft IPP Class Driver or Universal Print Class Driver. You will not get the Windows 11 2022 Update, even if your printer works fine if this is not company PC/laptop Workaround: To mitigate the safeguard and allow your Windows device to upgrade to Windows 11, version 22H2, you can remove any printers using Microsoft IPP Class Driver or Universal Print Class Driver which you have installed. Once you have removed any affected installed printers, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 11, version 22H2. Please note, if there are no other safeguards that affect your device, it can take up to 48 hours before the upgrade to Windows 11 is offered. Restarting your device and checking for updates might help it to offer sooner. If you have an installed printer which only allows default settings, you can mitigate this issue by removing and reinstalling the printer Next steps: We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release. Important: Currently this safeguard is on all Windows devices with printers using Microsoft IPP Class Driver or Universal Print Class Driver. We are working to target only Windows devices with printer drivers which are incorrectly only allowing default settings and will update when more information is available. Note We recommend that you do not attempt to manually upgrade using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved and the safeguard removed. other Known issues Some installed printers might only allow default settings Some printers might not have all their features available such as color, 2-sided printing or higher resolutions. Compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers and Windows 11 Windows 11 devices with the affected Intel SST driver might receive an error with a blue screen. Copying files/shortcuts using Group Policy Preferences might not work as expected Files or shortcuts might not copy or copy as zero-byte files when using Group Policy Preferences on client devices. KB5012170 might fail to install and you might receive a 0x800f0922 error Security update for Secure Boot DBX might fail to install. Usama Jawad96 Veteran Posted September 30, 2022 Veteran Share Posted September 30, 2022 Could it be related to this recent compatibility hold?https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-confirms-even-more-printing-issues-blocks-update-to-windows-11-22h2/ The Microsoft post (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-22h2#2913msgdesc) in the article has more information too. Breach
Hi guys, Yep, very much possible 🙂 See below! That said, a wholly user-unfriendly experience - I was seeing a message "22H2 is coming to your device", then it "came to my device" and then instead of a "hold message" I had this completely intuitive behavior... Usama Jawad96 Veteran Posted September 30, 2022 Veteran Share Posted September 30, 2022 Tell me about it, haha. My Windows 10 device has had a Windows 11 safeguard hold for ~1 year because of some incompatible Intel SST driver (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-21h2#2746msgdesc). The device meets all other requirements for Windows 11 and even shows up as compatible on PC Health Check but the only way to find out why someone like me is not getting the update is to be tech-savvy enough to go through Microsoft's documentation about holds. Christopher Andreason
just wanted to update about this topic Apparently, the printer policy in the 2022 feature update was set wrong by default. The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) connection settings need to be set to "Asynchronous RPC over the Named-Pipe Protocol" transport protocol for the printers to be identified Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1421970-windows-11-22h2-didntt-install-and-prompt-gone/#findComment-598765465 Share on other sites
