Sometimes you just want to beat the crap out of a laptop.

Sometimes you just want to beat the crap out of a laptop, to straighten it of course.

I had a customer bring me a laptop for data recovery that her son had driven over. Once I got the data off the nvme, they wanted to throw the laptop away.

I removed the screen as that was completely shattered and the screen frame was mangled. I then proceeded to beat the **** out of it along with a flat piece of metal to try bend the frame back into place.

Overall, I think it turned out pretty good

It has no screen, but I put in a spare NVME and it booted and works, be it plugged in to HDMI. I had low hopes for it. It still rocks back and for a little but not nearly as bad as it used to. I used it for a while hooked up to my tv, it worked great, but the fan was distracting. Sounded a bit high pitch than it probably should have. Might need a new one.

How the heck do you drive over a laptop? I have felt like beating the crap out of a laptop before, but never thought of driving over it!

I think it was forgotten on the hood of a car and slid off and then was driven over. *shrugs*

Seems like if it was left on hood of a car, it would've slid forward when car was put in reverse, and not been able to land under wheels? If it slid off and fell under wheels with car going forward, that would've been a heck of a bad luck bounce!

Yes, hard to believe no solder points were broken among other things.

What are you going to do with it now?

Not sure yet. If turns out to be rock solid, it would make a great QuickBooks laptop replacement as I only connect to my current QuickBooks laptop that's in my washroom on a shelf over RDP. (On the local lan, and tailscale over the internet). The fan works just fine, but it's just annoying to listen to. Which is why it would be great sitting on a shelf in my washroom.

Is there any room in your house that doesn't have a computer? ☺️

we had an employee once bring us a laptop that "fell horizontally against the wall" aka he threw it at the wall...
