mkol
Hello, I have £1000 to buy a phone I am not sure which one to go for. I bought 6s iPhone, 7 years back approximately. And Currently I am using 5 years old my niece phone 8plus. I have used nexus 5 in the past from Google and did enjoy the pure android experience. Can you guys shed some light on what is better and what is not. I did notice one thing though that the google hardware doesn't perform well after using it for two years. I phone can be used for long time and the hardware functions fine. Hope all you guys are well. As I am posting it after long time. shockz
Battery life - iPhone 14 Connectivity standards - Pixel supports 6E - iPhone 14 still on Wifi 6 Camera - Pixel Stock photo editing: Pixel, can practically photoshop people and objects out of the image Wireless Car Infotainment - Apple - Every Pixel device I've owned, including a 6A has terrible Android Auto experiences... crashes and non-responsive almost every drive. On more than one car. AI/Voice Assistant - By far Google Smart Home - Tie, but I'd give Google the edge with broader compatibility with existing devices prior to Matter standard. Also, Google Assistant native commands Customizations - Pixel, but outside of rooting it, there's not much excitement with launchers these days, and Apple has plenty of apps that can customize the Home Screen with widgets (including blank space widgets to mimic android Home Screen customizations). Updates: Apple still, but Google is getting better at long term Built to last: Apple Depends on what you're looking for, how immersed you are with voice assistants/ecosystems. If you're looking for a good camera phone, Pixel comes out first still, but not by much, if you're looking for something to hold on to for more than 3-4 years, iPhone. spikey_richie and +Eternal Tempest 2 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1422334-iphone-14-pro-max-or-pixel-7-pro/#findComment-598768273 Share on other sites
mkol
I want something to hold on for at least 5 years. From my past experience with google nexus way back in days doesn't last that long. Does apple pro max worth the price though? shockz
Pro Max is a big premium over a standard iPhone, but considering the standard plus model is only a hundred or so cheaper than the Pro Max, if you're looking for the bigger screen (and better battery life compared to the smaller iPhones) the Pro Max is probably the iPhone you want to get. If you don't care about the dynamic island, you can find some good deals on iPhone 13 Pro Max models. I can't tell much of a difference in day to day photography either between the 13 pros and 14 pros. For what it's worth, the two personal phones I own are a Pixel 6a and a 14 Pro Max. iOS 16 is... not great yet. Even the 16.1 betas are still ######. It's probably gonna take another month or two before we get back to a stable experience. Android 13 has been rock solid, except for android auto, which is trash on any version. McCordRm
The past two generations, I've been using Android. Currently have the Galaxy S10+. I really hate the feel of the phone, and the screen curves over the edge so much that using it is a pain in the ass because just holding the phone triggers "touches" on the screen which interfere with what I'm doing. The iPhone, however, feels good in the hand and I never had mis-click issues with it. I'll definitely be going back to iPhone once a local store gets the Pro Max in Space Black in stock. abdullah ali 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1422334-iphone-14-pro-max-or-pixel-7-pro/#findComment-598768712 Share on other sites
jnelsoninjax
If you like having to spend $1200-$1500 for a cell phone that will give you at best 2 years of use before it becomes too slow and you have to buy a new one, by all means buy an iPhone. If you want to spend the same amount of money, but get a phone that will last you for more than 2 years, go with the Pixel. I am still using the Pixel 4a(5G) that I paid $250 for, almost 3 years ago and I have not had to do anything to it, it is just as fast as it was the day I bought it. tsupersonic 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1422334-iphone-14-pro-max-or-pixel-7-pro/#findComment-598769946 Share on other sites

I passed my iPhone 8 Plus down to a family member when the iPhone 11 came out, they still have it, and it runs perfectly fine. We've passed the days where devices have only 1gb of ram and ancient processors in the iPhone line up, that are crippled when more advanced iOS updates get pushed out. Betting that 8 will be forced into obsolescence though when iOS 17 or 18 comes out and it's cutoff from the upgrade cycle. I bet that 8 probably out benchmarks some new androids still. The only time I've saw a iPhone throttle these days is when the battery is shot. My work iPhone 11 is just as speedy as it has ever been. +hedleigh and tsupersonic 2 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1422334-iphone-14-pro-max-or-pixel-7-pro/#findComment-598769952 Share on other sites

I wouldn't trust Google's support after 2 years. Google's Android platform is a mess (saying this as an Android user). Battery life is not consistent - randomly Google will push out an update (not a system update) to Google Play Services, and it will chomp battery like no other. Again it's totally random. Using Google software is like being a beta tester, you never know what experience you'll get. Besides Google not having any sort of long-term vision leads to mistrust/lack of confidence. If you want longevity, and a consistent software experience, go with iPhone. You'll get much longer support for both software, and the hardware support is better (thanks to physical stores). (it's what 3-4 gens behind current now?) and I run a 13 Pro Max for personal, prior for personal had an 11 Plus, still runs great. On the other hand I can count numerus people running Android that have the exact experience your claiming iPhones to bring, most Android vendors barely support 1 year of OS updates let alone 4-5. Probably the best idea... There is pluses and minus for each platform and their phones. I would say if you are already using an iPhone and like it just stick with it. It's harder to go from iOS to Android than vice versa. REM2000
Phones are becoming more and more accessories around the platform of choice, one big thing to consider is where is most of your data stored (it can be migrated yes but will it have all the features youve come to expect, say from your photo management?) Your apps, music, games etc.. cost of moving platforms can be expensive. Hardware accessories are also locking more people to a single platform, AirPods do work on android but work best on iPhone so i would consider that too. If you dont have too much invested in either of the platforms or can migrate easily, then the phone is personal choice. The only advantage AND disadvantage to Android is the choice of manufacturer/hardware. You get plenty of choices with diverse price ranging from low end, to the flagships which are just as expensive/more expensive than iPhones. But along with that comes the biggest disadvantage of fragmentation and varied user experience (usually bad). Also, your statement on iPhones being expensive - have you heard about the Pixel 7 Pro? You keep mentioning the Pixel 'a' series, to which iPhone SE also exists. The iPhones have the longest software update experience, and plenty of people in the world are using older iPhones without any issues. Apple even updates the older iPhones (ones not on the latest OS) with security updates. Ive been using iPhones for about 5 years now and I've never experienced that. 5+ years of software updates vs androids usually 2-3 is a huge value and I'd rather pay more for a device that I can either use for a long time or resell for good $. Android Phone's wear down faster cause they're cheap (unless top of the line flagships), slow down cause android always slows down after a while and needs a factory reset, and has no resale value cause they get abandoned so quickly by the manufacturers. That's not to say I don't have beefs with Apple but I'd take iOS over Android without a second thought. Android is so insecure (i work in infosec) and I absolutely hate them being on the corporate network. The amount of beaconing activity is absolutely wild when you start to look at the traffic statistics. It's pure spyware. Most people don't care though and just pick what works for them so it's whatever. People aren't gonna switch or do anything on their own anyways for the most part. It's just fanboys crying at each other. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1422334-iphone-14-pro-max-or-pixel-7-pro/#findComment-598770190 Share on other sites

One could easily argue that iPhone are are a better value since it gets updates for a couple of years longer. Again, iPhones are NOT known to slow down after couple of years any more than Android phones. Most of my contacts use iPhone and that is not any kind of trend and If anything Android phones are more known for that because apps are of poorer quality and the lack of software support (security updates/fixes) many Android phones still do not receive for any length of time. There is many reasons why I don't use an iPhone but it's not because they all slow down after a couple of years. Sorry, that is just wrong...
