Filmmaker James Gunn and longtime producing partner Peter Safran have been appointed by Warner Bros. Discovery to the roles of co-chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios (fka DC Films), where they will oversee “the overall creative direction of the storied superhero franchise across film, TV, and animation under a new, unified banner.”

Ok... so this confirms that a Condiment King movie is absolutely happening, right?

In all seriousness, this is good, I like it. He’ll help bring to light some lesser known/utilized DC properties (be it him directing or just guiding them along), while also allowing for the A-list properties to thrive (likely in a high-level guidance capacity).

I’m ok with these all remaining separate, but I’m hopeful he can help (even loosely) string them together.... they can all help each other thrive.

Sounds good to me, they needed to split DC into it's own unit and let them go to work.  It's also good that they split the job up into creative and business duties.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Henry Cavell on twitter saying he is returning to do Superman.

The Rock and others pushed to get Cavell back as Superman.  The old WB idiots didn't want him but once the Discovery team took over it's been talked about that they love him.  There's also the not so secret post-credit scene with him in Black Adam.  I expect to hear about a bunch of new DC projects coming in the next few months.

The Green Lantern series is back on the table and redeveloped to be about John Steward instead, https://collider.com/green-lantern-series-redeveloped-showrunner-departs-hbo-max/

All I care about is THE FLASH movie. Despite the actor's "issues" over the last couple of years, I really want to see this film. Everything else he talks about however, sounds like a tremendous clusterf***. 🙄

I mean... another reboot then?

If great films with a cohesive story worth telling comes of it, then cool - but all of this is (and has been) messed up time and time again by changes in ownership's agendas.

Not unlike the various Star Trek movies and TV shows. To me, James Gunn is just another Joss Whedon, coming in from Marvel to screw up the DC properties. IMO, the Marvel films are all crap anyway (except maybe the ones where Sam Raimi was/is involved), but my opinion doesn't matter, as I won't be paying attention to what they do next. I'm old, and my favorite Superman absolutely was and always will be George Reeves in the 1950s TV series (preferably with the first season's Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane). So I'm in the wrong decade and century it would seem, lol. 😁

The biggest disappointment was the lack of any news regarding The Condiment King... how dare they leave such a villan out of their plans!

I like where this is going tbh.   Using the flash as a "soft" reboot/restart makes perfect sense.  Setting up a clearly identifiable elseworlds brand for side movies is great.   The new stuff he talked about both expand and also extend the universe so that's great.  It's also important to note that the stuff listed so far are only part of chapter 1.

Marvel's been consistently "ok", "good", or "great" and they make money with the MCU model.

DC been so inconsistently been good, bad, or awful.

Putting a it under one person to shape / mold / control should improve the DC movies and give it some consistency.

This also mean some of the "good" gets tossed out during a reboot, however.

You can make an argument that you don't have to have an "integrated" universe for your heroes and focus on the various one's independent of each other.

They seem to do a much better job at the animated series and movies.

Even their animated shows/movies, as much as I love them, are full of inconsistencies...

That should change now unless something is clearly marked as elseworld, which was the smart thing to do from the start.
