Gigabyte x570s Aorus Master & HBA Card Not Recognized

Recommended Posts

Good evening all,

I thought I would reach out with a unique issue I'm having.  I recently purchased the Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master with Ryzen 7 5800x CPU.  My current setup is a GTX 980 in PCIe slot 1, and in PCIe slot 2 I have a 9341-8i SAS card flashed to HBA mode.  (I actually have two, one HBA and one RAID mode).  When I insert the cards into the slot and access the boot menu via F12, I have no option for the SAS/HBA card to boot from.  Also, during the initial POSTing there is no Avago configuration menu appearing.  These cards are working pulls from my office's server.  I have used both successfully in a MSI Z190 motherboard I have and both show the Avago menus, give boot options for it, etc.

But nada on this board.

Will this board support it?  Is there a hidden menu option I'm missing on these Gigabyte boards?

Thanks!

I can't help much, but let's go over the basics.

Do you have the latest BIOS version?

Does that HBA card need 8x or 16x? Could be under-loading that card.

I'll let @BudMantake over now..

There are shared resources depending on configuration. See the motherboard manual.

This video may help you:

Spec sheet of the Avago MegaRAID SAS 9341-8i in case you need it: https://docs.broadcom.com/doc/12351983

Added the spec sheet of the SAS 9341-8i

Hello,

I'm not as familiar with AMD-based systems as I am with Intel ones, but from looking through the Gigabyte X570S AORUS MASTER motherboard manual, I am wondering if bifurcation for the first two PCIe slots must be enabled to give each one an ×8 lane connection.  Also, if there is a choice, the Avago MegaRAID SAS 9341-8i controller should be flashed with UEFI and not BIOS option ROM firmware so that CSM support can be disabled in the motherboard's UEFI firmware, and the Storage Boot Option and PCIE Device ROM Priorities in the firmware can both be set to "UEFI Only".

Yup, I have the latest Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master v1.0 firmware which is labeled as "F4e" on their website.  From what I've read, the card needs 8x.

I've made sure that no shared resources are in conflict.  For example, a 1TB NVMe is installed in m.2 slot 0.  Only a graphics card is installed in the first PCIe slot with the HBA/Raid card in the second PCIe 8x slot.  No devices installed in the last PCIe slot or any SATA M2 drives installed that would create conflict there.
