Lenovo Fingerprint Biometric USB Mouse

I found this on Amazon, I was looking to add a fingerprint reader to my computer, then I wondered, do they make a mouse with a fingerprint reader built in. Yes, they do. Only 2 that I could find, one of which is a Lenovo 3 button mouse.

Bonus - No RGB :)

Mostly got it to use with Bitwarden.

I mean, you could read why he wants/needs it. Then you can answer your own question.

OK if that works for you but I am not going to use a crappy mouse for a fingerprint scanner. it's not that hard to type a Windows password.

Nobody asked you to.

Built in fingerprint reader! Super useful for a desktop at least!

Interesting. Not that I would ever, ever, ever give up my ergonomic mouse, but I can see some good uses for this.

Do you know what kind of sensor it has? Any reviews on it? Are the drivers built in to Windows?

yes, unlocking your computer with the mouse is handy but it's even more handy to unlock a password manager vault.

i'd be more interested if the reader was in the button under your normal finger position and flush with the plastic so you couldn't tell it was there... seems like a meh place for it in the middle on this

Well, i guess they have to keep cost down somehow.

You have to install any software to make it work? Using a Chinese device for fingerprint scanning is not my first choice. LOL

It's plug and play. No software required.

How does someone recommending a piece of hardware trigger people so strongly?

If this functionality could be built into a better mouse, I’d definitely be in!

I just noticed the youtube video I posted 6 hours ago, which probably showed up as a youtube short, already has 1.2k views.

If I couldn't use Windows Hello, I'd like this setup. My laptop has a fingerprint reader too, which can be used for way more than just logging in. Passwords are ancient, I'm glad Authenticator/Modern Auth are finally embracing passwordless options.

I've found a couple.

The best looking one IMO I've found is the Dell one

Dell Wired Mouse with Fingerprint Reader - MS819

I prefer the ergonomics of Logitech mice though

Ah yes, thanks, I forgot to link to the 2nd one I found. It was that one. The Dell is 1000 DPI and the Lenovo is 1600 DPI.

I prefer to keep my webcam covered unless using it. Agree, it's a little paranoid. i would have more trust if was running Linux on my laptop but using Windows. My main box has Linux and no webcam/mic. Funny how Orwell was so wrong about the government putting cameras on us all the time in our home. It turned out to be us. Again, no big deal to type a password for Windows and a PIN for Bitwarden.

Hello,

Here is Lenovo's support page for the mouse if you would like to read its documentation:  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/acc500030-lenovo-fingerprint-biometric-usb-mouse-overview-and-service-parts
