Former Pres. Jimmy Carter (98) in home hospice care

Checked out of the hospital, doesn't sound like it'll be long.

Politics aside, one of the more decent men to hold the office.

Oldest living president.  It will be a sad day when he passes.

I was thinking the same thing...thank you for saying so, DocM

Mr. Carter has been a real humanitarian, via charity projects like Habitat for Humanity.

I have nothing against the guy, but I really don't get this mindset of referring to FORMER Presidents as "President".  He's not the President, he's a private citizen who hasn't been active in politics for a looooooooong time...

Here's hoping he passes peacefully, surround by his loved ones.

They may be private citizens in most peoples eyes but once you become president your status in the country changes forever, you lose rights actually, you get a protected status, and you are forever "one of them" in the gov's eyes... heck they aren't even allowed to drive on public roads... you are still treated like a president even though your powers are lower, but you can still do a lot of stuff presidents can do, like get classified briefings...  they still get their own presidential staff, office expenses paid, secret service... does it sound odd calling a former president a president? yes... but we still even call Washington President Washington to this day......

Weird... In the UK, former PM's are rarely heard from again once they're done, and usually it's a case of good riddance! :p

yeah it's odd because you still hear about bush, clinton, carter, obama all the time it feels like, and they can even be used as references for the current presidents if needed on situations.. its almost like you are working retired

honestly, i dont know why anyone wants to be a president, the job sucks, your life after it sucks from an independent point of view...

Then they make absolutely millions on the “private advisory” market and so on quietly using their inside knowledge.

There's not a reaction for  but yeah, this drives me nuts with US politics as it is. Absolutely disgusting.
