"Making Sure it's You"

Having had a couple of PCs "borked" recently caused an occasional annoying popup, leading me to this ssearch: making sure it's you - Search (bing.com)

Isn't there one perfect (and perfectly good) way to deal with this, instead of bunch of possibilities that require tinkering trying and getting frustrated?

Why can't I get rid of these popups permanently, especially since I am the only user on most of my machines?

Which OS is this? Windows 10, Windows 11?

I don't think I've seen that popup before, or if I have it's maybe been when I've changed my Microsoft password. Have you signed out of your account and then back in?

I only had that pop up due to a BIOS upgrade resetting my motherboard settings, including disabling the eTPM...

I think I managed to get rid of it now, so I shall see. I've also been through a lot of life crap recently and computer problems are the last thing need to deal with. I so hate MS a lot lately. Ptobbly jumping to Linux very soon.

I do agree that whenever having difficulties the less you want to have is technology failing at you. I must warn you though, Linux can give you that, but for setting it up first time you need to afront it with a calm mind. After this the gains are insane as... you simply forget it simply works.

Pro tip, each time you take advice from a page... store that page in favourites for later consulting. Hope things get better and good luck with Linux.

I do keep a pretty close eye on my computer(s) in any case, so I hope that helps me. As for Linux distros, I have a fair amount of experience using Mint, going back to around v. 8 I believe. Always liked it, and played with it on and off awhile, but switched back to Windoze to help my late wife with her home computing needs. She was a math wizard for decades and wanted to write a fresh and understandable (for HS students) book on Pre-Calculus, in an attempt to replace some very old texts her school district was using. Sadly, she never got to do that. If nothing else, I was going to help her maintain her computer(s) for that task.(I'm just a hobbyist maker of short sci-fi films since 1970 and occasional writer and historian on vintage film industry people and their films. Worked on a few movies in LA in the 1980s to present, but have alwys done it more for fun and to hang around with good friends.

I'm glad to hear from a nice person like you, since it inspires me to actually finish writting my sci-fy novel the entire history has been written already in another language and I'm trying to fully rewrite it in english but time is often an issue. Still, I wish you the best, cheers!

Thank you so much for your kind words.  Writing used to be fun for me, but nowadays I just ramble on forums like this. I had a few friends as long ago as the mid-1970s who weree writing while I was attending film school, and one of my friends ended up having a few movies adapted from his writing in the 1980s/90s. It was a thrill to see that happen for him. I once showed a photo from one of my first sci-fi film shorts to Gene Roddenberry (Star Trek'd creator), while attending one of the earliest sci-fi conventions partly about the original Star Trek series. He took one look at the photo I was holding and said, "Hey wait! That's not ours!" Indeed it wasn't as it was a pic of me in the set from my first little 7-minute sci-fi film (shot on Super 8 film)! I told him what I was doing at the time (1972) and he said something like, "Don't quit! Keep doing what you're doing!" So I'm currently making my final short film and dedicating it to a few cherished friends from my past who once gave me far more credit than I ever deserved for those short films.

One thing I can suggest if this crops its ugly head again, check your CMOS battery and also check for BIOS updates, likely dodgy firmware is causing this.

An additional thank you to Steven P. for your kind words about my recent (and current) life situation. I wish I could be more open about it, as it's the most amazing/frustrating/difficult situation I've dealt with in my 60+ years, but at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now...which likely will require moving to another town many miles away from where I now live (and have lived for 33 years). I feel too old for this change, but I also look at it as a new, later-in-life adventure.  🤓
