Howdy, I'm looking at putting this together for a 1080p gaming build.  My last (RMA'd because it died) NUC-style mini PC had a Ryzen 9 6900HX & Radeon 6600M, so I see this as a comparable machine - but easier to look after.  I don't need storage as I am transitioning that over.  So would appreciate any feedback please:

Case is always personal preference. I would go with something from Fractal Design, but that's me..

I would go 6700 or 6800. Whichever is good for you but try to get something with a at least 12 MB for longevity.

I got a 6600 myself just the other day upgrading from a vega 56, actually kind of feels like a downgrade but the price was right.  the 6600 can't really do ray tracing so don't expect it.  that being said, would actually look at going to a 6800 if you can afford it, or even a 7000 series card.

Oh I also would personally go with at least 32GB of RAM instead of 16, even if you don't use it you can enable Resizable BAR and get a memory boost for the gfx card.

Well, rn I have a Fractal Design Define S2. I think it's out of production, but, ANY Fractal Design case is good. I had 3 or 4 from them, and have been happy with all.

Definitely better, actually wish I went with an XT, also regardless of what resolution you're gaming at, the 6700xt is better bang for your buck.

Have you considered the RX 6700 10GB from XFX? It is around 30-35% faster than the 6600 and comes with 10GB VRAM. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Rs92FT/xfx-speedster-swft-309-radeon-rx-6700-10-gb-video-card-rx-67xlkwfdv Should be a snug fit.

Any feelings either way on cooling - I tend to err toward air cooling as I have had two AIOs fail on me - and fans can be run so quietly now.  That cooler rates almost as well as the Noctua NH-D15 and is half the price - and white.

Is the Ryzen 7 7700X maybe a bit much?

Is G.Skill Ripjaw memory OK?

Have you checked ASrock's MOBO QVL for compatibility with the G.Skill kit you've selected?

https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B650M PG Riptide/index.us.asp#Memory - I see the shortened SKU# F5-6000J3040F16GX2 but not the specific F5-6000J3040F16GX2-RS5W, so that might be something to follow-up on as RAM with 7000x seems really finicky from what I've seen and heard.

I NEVER had a problem with G.Skill.. I've been using the Ripjaws line for 10+ years.

And I'm sure many others haven't had a single issue either - I'm not trying to single-out G.Skill at all. I'm simply relaying info about RAM frequencies that many have experienced with the AM5 platform since launch in general. Making sure the kit you've selected is on a QVL can go a long way in determining stability and being able to run at advertised MT's.

I just noticed that the memory isn't AMD EXPO certified and also not on the motherboard QVL list. I personally wouldn't choose this memory since Ryzen 7000 is quite finicky with RAM.
