Link to offline installer for google Chrome version 109 is wrong download

I followed the link from Neowin to https://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?system=true&standalone=1&platform=win64 and downloaded the file which was supposed to be for the 64 bit version 109 of Chrome but when I went to install it on my other Windows 7 computer, it tried to go online and download the browser and install it and the installation failed. I connected that computer to the internet and the same thing happened. I believe the download was for the newest version which will not install on Windows 7. The file I downloaded was around 75 MB.

I have been running Chrome on this Windows 7 computer for years and it works just fine. I just can't get any updates for it which is fine with me but I'd like to get Chrome on the other computer so I can use my bookmarks and other files.

Sometimes the Neowin articles link to the direct version of a program, and sometimes they link to a hotlink that downloads the latest version of a program.  It depends on how the software developer releases the program for download. 

Since you did not mention the exact build of version 109 of Google Chrome's web browser nor provide a link to Neowin's article in question, it is a bit difficult to find the specific build you might have been trying to download.  I did find this Neowin article from the beginning of 2023:  Google Chrome 109.0.5414.120 (offline installer) which might be the build you were looking for, but I'm not certain.  I believe that is the last build of version 109, as the next build of the Google Chrome web browsers for Windows (at least that I am aware of) is version 110.0.5481.77.  Since Google does not seem to provide a copy of this old version for download anymore, you will likely have to keep searching until you find a copy of it.

I did some additional searching and came up with the following:

If you do find the version 109 build that you are looking for, perhaps that will allow you to authenticate it.

With all of that said, I would be remiss if I didn't caution you about the risk of connecting a computer with an end of life operating system to the Internet.  Support for Windows 7 ended in January 2020, which is a five years ago. 

Microsoft Windows 10 came out eight years ago in 2015, and its hardware requirements were very similar to Windows 7, so a computer that could run Windows 7 decently should have no problem running Windows 10 today, which is a modern, more secure operating system that will receive security updates until at least October 2025.  You will also be able to run a current version of Google's Chrome web browser on it, with all of the security updates that have come out since version 109 of that web browser was last released.  That would be a far safer and more secure way to access the internet from your computer today then continuing to use Windows 7 paired with an old version of a web browser.

It is not a direct link to version 109 but to the current version at the time of visiting the website... As of this writing, you will get version 114 and not version 109...

If you visited the website when version 109 was initially available, then you will get version 109... What you need to do now is to download version 109 elsewhere and not from the Google download page...

I tried the old versions link yesterday but the download link does not work. I'm downloading the slimline file now but it's not the 109 version. I found a link for the 109 version yesterday and downloaded and installed it but it's in Russian or some other language that I don't understand.

the only "offline" installers that I know of that are available from Google (at least for a limited time) are named with "109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe" for Chrome 109 on Win7/8.x/Server 2012

One of the links above led me to a download of this file (109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe) so I uninstalled the Russian version and installed this one. This download was the exact same file with a different file name.

I searched on Google and found out how to change the language from Russian to English so everything works fine. I transferred all my bookmarks, extensions and passwords so I'm all set. Thanks for everyone's input.

I almost forgot to mention.  run 109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe with the --system-level switch to perform the actual install or upgrade.
running 109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe by itself w/out any switches or parameters will do nothing.

{ex. I put 109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe on the c:\temp\ folder, so I run "c:\temp\109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe --system-level" from either the Run dialog box or from the windows command prompt [cmd.exe], which will install the browser to the \Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application folder}.

good thing about using 109.0.5414.120_chrome_installer.exe is that it does not bundle the google chrome updater app; just the chrome browser app & nothing else
