Trying to expand a partition, but the option to extend is grayed out

Recommended Posts

My Windows drive has two partitions, and the one (C) where everything default installs to is running out of room, so I took 100GB of the second partition and now have 97.7 GB of unallocated space. I want to give that space to drive (C), but the option to extend is greyed out. Is there any way to fix this?

Did you try using GParted?

That Unallocated partition could be a hidden partition, like for recovery. The weird thing Windows does..

No, I just used the built-in windows disk management, and no, the unallocated is one I just created, it is not a system reserved

You can't do that with Windows disk management since the C partition and the unallocated partition aren't adjacent.  You'll have to use a third party...like Mindovermaster suggested.

The problem may be that windows expects that 635mb Recovery Partition to be located at the very end of the disk. Not sure how you managed to get it located between the C and F partitions but it's location there is messing things up. You might be able to move it to the end of the disk and move the other partitions in front of it but there's no guarantee that would work. You may have to either leave things the way they are or completely reinstall windows. If you want to have your downloads separate from windows its usually best to use a separate disk.
