New Seagate 1TB External--Already reporting Errors with Drive

Recommended Posts

Not Sure if USB Power related errors, or errors with drive itself,  but it said that when i plugged in WD Red My Passport to 2nd port on USB 3.0 Hub.

Seagate drive is 1TB Portable External, purchased on 8/4/2023 from Amazon.com, delivered today

Should i do a full format on the drive, and then try making a backup copy of the files i wanted to

Older VHS to Mp4 captures that i wanna save to this External as extra copy, and store the WD My Passport One Off site to keep it safe as can be, as these shows i can't replace as they no longer air on Television at all

and Some CD Ripped Music trying to backup as well with this drive, and hopefully it error free after this

Mayber I'm reading this wrong, but.. The WD Red My  Passport is showing WHAT error? From what I understand, you never said what error it gets.

And your new Seagate drive, is it just fine, or, why would you need to reformat it?

I'm conbfuzzled..

Well The Seagate drive was showing the error

Error found on drive, and Windows neeed to scan this drive,  scanned it, and then it showed fine afterwards

The WD My Passport showed Fatal hardware error like it usually does lol,  but seems fine now--plugged The Seagate into Front of case, and left the Passport on Hub, seems ok for moment i hope

Then The Red Passport drive didn't even have the most up to date Folder on it anyways,  i was like that has to be on the blue drive

Maybe i got too many External Drives lol

Run an extended or long SMART test on your drive. There are manufacturer specific tools such as Seagate SeaTools but you can also try a third-party utility like PassMark DiskCheckup.

Ok then stops worrying on it as might've just been a glitch perhaps why seen the error,  as both drives tested fine
