Mounting Sata SSD in BTX Form Factor Pre Built

Recommended Posts

Mounting a SSD in BTX Form Factor PC,   installed it today

2.5 inch to 3.5 inch adapter didn't really fit, wanted to screw in from the sides,  but there is no sides to attack to lol.

Eventually just screwed the SSD with the 1 screw hole that lined up

Good or should i redo it at some point?

picture of where the old hard drive was, the top right screw up lined up on the Solid State Drive

It doesn't matter which way you place your SSD. It has no moving parts. As long as you keep it aptly cooled and clean, all that matters.

Yeah i thought about zip ties,  but maybe i should've done that, didn't seem to wobbly with the one screw in the right top screw hole, (only one that lined up with old hard drive hole lol)    Hopefully it does stay cool enough,  i cleaned the dust out with my electric duster as well this morning.

System was more responsive as well

I was gonna use 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch adapter thing, but since it was side holes, didn't line up with the hard drive spot at all

I use double sided tape when installing SSDs in computers without dedicated slots. As mind said, as long as you keep them cool, it doesnt matter where you put them.

Do with this info what you will but there's really no wrong way to install a 2.5" unless you bend the cables too much or decide to put it in a very hot spot and wonder why your speeds are ###### (yes ive seen people do this, yes MULTIPLE people 🤦‍♀️)

Oh ok well i'll check the temps on that drive with Samsung Magician,  but i don't think that is a hot spot, or at least i hope its not

System seemed to be performing fine during all the WIndows Updates after the clean install, and system backup

Current SSD Temp in that Desktop 34C (heck it's cooler than my Main Desktop Sata SSD lol)  I think

Main Desktop Sata SSD 38C

M.2 Nvme 60C (above video card) and between CPU Tower Cooler on this case)   ((still plan on adding 1 top fan for extra exhaust soon as i can here to see if that helps any))  for main Desktop

*Board had NO NvMe heatsink at all*   but typically it works pretty well considering that spot probably a hot zone at times lol

I actually did that once.. lol

If you look at the image you've posted. It seems that it does support a 2.5" drive mounting option. On the left side of the harddisk there are 2 screw holes. I'm guessing you need to slide in a 2.5" drive 90 degrees to where you mount the 3.5" drive and the screws would go into the side of the drive?

Personally, one screw is one more than enough for an SSD drive. SSD drives tend to be super light, even when compared to a 2.5" harddisk. We use VHB tape in the old machines that we upgrade and stick them upside down, to down to the bottom of the case. The drives are generally going to outlast the machine's life, And if the drive does die, we'll just stick the replacement one on top of that.

In a desktop computer that isn't an issue and I've done it a couple times in the past also. Used to help out a guy at a mom and pop computer store and saw him do that several times.

Well good to know i didn't make any mistakes really with the install then--as i tend to worry at times on silly things lol

So far system performing very well,  whats installed now, will probably be it of the installs as Primary user of that Desktop nowadays does not install much, except Windows Updates, and Office 365 updates, honestly probably could've went with Smaller Sata SSD and would've been fine,  but then again the 1TB Sata SSD probably has a ton more writes allowed than if i went 250GB to 500GB model like i originally was gonna do at first lol.

Originally on my Main Gaming Desktop my original boot Sata SSD was 250GB lol,  but then again i had Game Sata SSD, and 1TB storage drive for a long while (upgraded to 4TB storage drive) as bought that to be backup drive originally Christmas 2018, not knowing i'd win in a Twitter CES Contest in early 2019 a Seagate 8TB Storage drive,  i was like ok 8TB for Main Backup drive,  4TB WD Black Internal on Main system  lol--then later discovered the Seagate 8TB was a slow SMR drive lol,  so now secondary backup drive, and Primary now is WD My Book 8TB lol

Thank you everyone for all the replies on this matter so appreciate it

Hello,

For future reference, here are some 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapters that appear to have screw holes tapped into them for mounting the bottom of the 3.5" adapter to the chassis:

I was looking at pictures of the drive adapters to determine this, so I would suggest verifying with the manufacturer before making a purchase.
