Western Digital 4TB WD Black Hard Drive Preventive Wear Leveling Question

Recommended Posts

Is it normal for that to activate each time i leave this Desktop Idle a bit?

Makes like loud like chugging noise, then eventually stops,  then does it again either later that day or next day.

From what i read on Western digitals forums--those sounds are normal

Though it never completes Western Digital Dashboard Extended Test, gets to 90 percent and just sits there for hours

Any advice is Welcome

P.S. Drive is no where near full

Was originally was gonna be a Backup Drive, since didn't think i'd ever afford an 8TB,  but in January 2019 i was informed i won a CES Twitter Contest and Received a Seagate 8TB SMR Drive----and later on purchased a WD My Book 8TB to be Primary Backup drive with the Seagate Becoming Secondary,  Original Desktop storage drive was WD Black 1TB drive purchased in 2018, that one did not have these sounds

That chugging noise is probably it waking up. I had certain drives do this. It puts it to sleep but randomly gets up saying "I'm here!"

If it's something else, @Warwagonshould know..

Ya, I got 3 of these. 1 for me, 1 for my gf and 1 for my parents. The one at my gf house I always dismount before bed because it will randomly wake up and wake me up with it. Here is what I think it sounds like.

Example.

Well then i guess nothing to really worry too much on in that case

I normally sleep with ear buds in, so doesn't bother me too much--except the times when ear buds are dead lol, but then only briefly when i switched over to wired headset with phone---then i typically fall back to sleep not too long after
