2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz band; fastest connection, instead of 'steady' connection [thus 5 GHz "only"]

Is there a way to overrule the 'default' working of a router/modem on 2.4 and 5 GHz bands?

Situation:
In my current setup I have a wireless connection on 2.4 GHz of 200-300 Mbps down, and via 5 GHz around 600-700 Mbps.
I have a Mesh setup.

The thing is... because the 2.4 GHz band is the most reliable, stable and steady connection my computers always almost take this band of the Mest network as 'default', and ignore the faster 5 GHz. It's just how these bands & specs work.

However, is there a way to implement a 'rule' or something to say to always use the 5 GHz band , and when a signal isn't strong enough anymore that only than the 2.4 GHz band is to be used?

I have a FRITZ!Box 7590 and as modem the ASUS RT-AC86U.
