Lalita Mital
I used to walk to and from work, and it helped with my mental fatigue most of the time (though the physical fatigue comes in when you come home lol). It's also nice to take in some fresh air while wallowing in your thoughts. I personally enjoy walking in general because it helps my mind relax. rocks1985 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1442125-walking/#findComment-598913980 Share on other sites
+InsaneNutter MVC Posted July 3, 2024 MVC Share Posted July 3, 2024 I've been walking to and from work since 2020 now and feel it is really beneficial for both my physical and mental health, especially as I'm sat at a computer for 40+ hours a week when at work. Originally I started when local Covid cases were getting quite high back in early 2020, after the first week of doing it I realised it wasn't actually that hard and I felt so much better for walking, so here I am still walking in 2024. It takes approx. 50 mins to 1 hour to walk each way, so I'm getting near enough two hours exercise per day and only actually get home 15 mins later than I would have on public transport. rocks1985 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1442125-walking/#findComment-598914069 Share on other sites
Nick H. Supervisor Posted July 3, 2024 Supervisor Share Posted July 3, 2024 I'm not sure that I would say I "enjoy" walking, but if it's an option I tend to walk somewhere rather than taking a bus, taxi etc. Like @InsaneNutterI used to walk to and from work unless I was running late, and that was about an hour each way. Unfortunately since I moved back to the UK I've been working from home, so the most exercise I get is if I take the dog for a walk or take a stroll to the pub. Speaking of... Hurricane Andrew
I just started walking at work towards the end of March. We have a treadmill that no one uses, and I'm trying to get into some healthy habits and drop some weight. I end up walking on my lunch break, about 42 minutes total (37 with a 5 minute cool down) while re-watching Agents of Shield. The episode lengths are perfect (hence the odd time) and it's like I'm not even working out. Not only am I slowly losing weight (about a pound a week give or take) but my pants are a little looser and I just "feel" better overall. I've never minded walking (I do it on vacation all the time) I've just never felt I had the time or place to do it on the regular, but now that I'm into the habit, it great. I highly recommend it, especially for you younger folks. It's a lot harder to build a good habit at my age, but it can be done! rocks1985 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1442125-walking/#findComment-598914077 Share on other sites
summerc
I try to keep the routine of walking to work, although this summer wasn't really walking friendly. The treadmill is my second choice because it's not easy to make myself use it more than 2-3 times a week. I comfort myself it's better than nothing. rocks1985 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1442125-walking/#findComment-598928406 Share on other sites
