+primortal Subscriber² Posted July 9 Subscriber² Share Posted July 9 The 10-episode series, premiering Wednesday, July 24, comes from longtime collaborators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), both of whom have on-camera roles and who serve as creators alongside fellow Flight of the Conchords alum Iain Morris. Looks pretty good and is based on the movie of the same name. BritBronco and margrave 1 1 Share
+Warwagon MVC Posted July 9 MVC Share Posted July 9 At first, I thought that was Will Ferrell Oh god, I have very low hopes for her acting in this. She always sounds like she's reciting lines. heslo 1 Share
LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted July 9 Veteran Share Posted July 9 How did they go that whole trailer without mentioning at all its a remake or crediting Terry Gilliam for being the original creator? +primortal, Xenon and FloatingFatMan 3 Share

Because other than it being based on their characters and story, Gilliam/Palin have nothing to do with this new creation. But really, do we really want to hear "remake" or "reboot" or "based on" .... it can exist in its own right. I've been wanting something further in this area for a long time, so I'll take what I can get -- I have super low expectations, but I'm pleased with what I see so far. The original never took itself seriously at all and as long as they keep it lighthearted and fun, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. As just a sight gag, I would love if there were a characters (like Palin/Duvall) who kept showing up in all the different time periods with no real reason or explanation. branfont
I enjoyed the original, missed seeing it in the theatre in '81, but I did see it on VHS a few times a few years later. Haven't actually watched it since the '80s, but I may have to give it a watch again before I watch the series.
BritBronco
Watched the first two episodes with the 8 year old, I enjoyed it, she loved it. Not a patch on the movie, but holds it's own. +primortal 1 Share

Time Bandits wasn't a deep, meaningful original story, but I felt the original spirit was captured nicely, they had interesting characters, and the world's best macguffin, second only to Stargate. The show literally could've gone anywhere. All of the cast really surprised me. BritBronco 1 Share
