Keep phone numbers of family and friends in your wallet or purse.

Do you know the phone numbers of your family and friends, or do you just tap their names in your contacts?

It dawned on me a while back that I had no idea what my girlfriend and my dad’s phone number was. I just always tap on their name on my phone when I want to call them.

I recommended to my parents and my girlfriend to have a piece of paper in their wallet or purse, that has the names of family members along with their phone numbers.

This way, in the event we lose our phone and need to get in contact, we could still get a hold of each other.

I recommend creating one that's the size of a credit card.

3.370 in × 2.125 in

It's also a good idea to fill in the emergency contact information on your phone. This allows anyone to make calls to the contacts you specified, even when the phone is locked.

I did this for my daughter when she was about 10. Printed out a small card with emergency contact numbers for parents, grand parents and close friends, and then laminated it. 15 years later she still has it. It actually came in useful recently when she lost her wallet, the person who found it used the information to get a hold of me before my daughter even knew she had lost it. Quickly recovered.

For myself I recently got a cheap desktop laser engraver, and picked up some cheap credit card sized metal cards. I used that to make a quick emergency contacts card that's a little more durable than a piece of paper (hopefully).

I know the 3 family numbers I need to know in an emergency, but that's it! Oh, I also know the number to my pharmacy for getting refills. LOL

I haven't ever dropped, cracked, or lost a phone yet, so here's hoping that continues!
