"Star Wars": Simon Kinberg to Write, Produce New Trilogy for Lucasfilm

Recommended Posts

Simon Kinberg is heading into hyperspace, signing an expansive deal to write and produce a "Star Wars" feature trilogy.

Kinberg would spearhead the launching of a new saga in the beloved galaxy far, far away, and will write the scripts for what Lucasfilm hopes would chart a brand new path forward for the sci-fi space opera universe.

Lucasfilm topper Kathleen Kennedy will also produce the new trilogy.

The new story is not meant to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, the name of the overall arc of the popular and pop culture-dominating "Star Wars" movies known as Episodes 1 through 9. The intent here is to have brand new characters and a new story, and not have it be a continuation, sources tell "The Hollywood Reporter." (Although that does not mean that some characters could not or would not pop up.)

So we don't know when this will take place in the Star Wars timeline?

Doesn't really matter.  Disney have killed Star Wars already... They're just flogging a dead horse.

With how dirty the last trilogy did my boy Luke, I have close to zero interest in it anymore.   They couldn't do a good sequel trilogy, no way they can do something better when even the tv series side has fallen apart on them.  I suppose the only show worth anything now is Andor, but that's standing on the shoulders of the original trilogy narrative wise.

This is the way it should have gone

As far as I'm concerned, SW was dead in the water, we hadn't had anything SW related on screen since 1985/1986. Yes, there were books & comics then to, but nothing really to phone home about. It wasn't until Timothy Zahn released his trilogy that then reinvigorated the SW market, IMHO.

I don't get why they don't... She's lost WAY more money for them than breaking her contract would cost...

Agreed.  So what if she was GL's chosen one - she is the most responsible for the worst aspects of Disney-era SW!

She was the chosen one! It was said that she would destroy the Walt Disney Company, not join them! Bring balance to the Film, not leave it in darkness!
