scumdogmillionaire
i bought it tuesday and so far i'm not liking it. first, i've been sick the last week and have an ear infection so i have difficulty hearing, so i will give it the benefit of the doubt until i can properly evaluate it, BUT the production sounds horrible. the guitars sound very weak and "twangy" and the bass levels are very strange. joeys kick drum is almost un-hearable, and when you do hear it it just sounds like a little pitter patter. so far, self titled is still my favorite. as far as this goes Mick and Jim are terrible guitarists and couldn't play nearly a quater the stuff Metallica's Kirk Hammett ( 11th best guitarist of all time) plays (i think it would be halarious to see mick try and play 'master of puppets'), seriously if they are good guitarists, then why dont they bloody well put some solos in a few songs as a display of talent. If you want to see real guitar talent, check out Thin Lizzy, Metallica or Hendrix. mick would rip up master of puppets. almost any guitarist can play that. i have been playing guitar for 12 years now, have been in coutless bands and played with some of the top bands in this country. (read type o negative, mudvayne, etc..) the style of music i play and write is very slipknot-ish, and i choose NOT to play lead though i am very capable of it. i was taught listening to lindsey buckingham yngwie and others. i am very capable of playing that stuff, but solos and such in the music i write are not needed. you can't judge the value of a guitarist by how many solo's they do or what they write. slipknot writes what is appropriate for their style. and odds are they could beat the hell out of hammett as most any guitarist can. he's not that great and relies WAY too much on his wah. p.s. dave mustaine runs circles around hammett. just so you know. p.p.s jack white of the "white stripes" was also on one of those "best guitarists of all time" lists... you can take all of those with a grain of salt... actually, take it with a brick of salt. scumdogmillionaire
i'm very open minded. slipknot is not my favorite band, i'm just a casual fan. (i will say i do like murderdolls better than slipknot, and wish joey would just do that full time :p) so them not "sticking to their roots" will not offend me. Greenmeany
Just thought I would post my useless opinions and say that I've had this album since Tuesday and it rocks. It as good as the 2 last albums I think some fans don't like it because it sounds different. Which honestly annoys me because these people say that all pop music is all the same and they never change their styles. Yet when their favourite bands have a go at doing things differently they are shunned. And I can't wait to see them play at download. (only 8 days b4 I leave for Donnington) 2 days of beer fueled metal madness  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/145723-slipknot-vol-3-the-subliminal-verses/page/13/#findComment-2171927 Share on other sites

QuantumTrickery
So far I'm enjoying the new cd. Best listened to in a quiet room on good speakers, or better yet on a nice set of headphones. They've really done a turnaround on this album, especially after that worthless lump called Iowa. A few of the tracks are downright awesome, while others are friggin horrible. All in all i'll give the cd a B+. Definitely worth listening to some more, but nothing I won't mostly forget about in a few months. If this is any sign of them growing more as a band, I can't wait to see what they have in store in the future. one321
I have a question about a song title. Tracks 8 & 11 "Vermillion" and "Vermillion, Pt. 2" caught my eye. I am from South Dakota which shares a border with Slipknot's home state of Iowa. Vermillion is a town very near the Iowa border. I was curious if there were any Slipknot fansites that have meanings of songs or track names. I know it's a stretch but sometimes you can find that kind of stuff. Thanks! Mick used to be a guitar teacher before he hit the big time, i have read an article he did for Total Guitar (UK mag) and he is well into the neo-classical stuff (yngwie, di meola etc) he did like 5 tracks on the cd which came with the mag and his arpeggio sweeps are proper sexy. He is a shredder through and through. :punk: just because he doesn't let rip on the record doesn't mean he can't do it, he is quoted as saying that ross robinson (slipknot producer) wont allow him to do it. Bizkit
I'm not a huge Slipknot fan, but to me, it seems alittle for watered down comparded to the first CD. Now maybe its just me, but I am alittle disappointed. one321
I'd say that my favorite album is Slipknot, then Subliminal Verses, and finally Iowa. I love them all though. Subliminal is a little more watered down. It doesn't seem as intense or as crazy. I realize that is "the band growing" and all....but sometimes I just want to rock out!
