Silvorgold
If the Canadian election was tomorrow, which party would you vote for? I would vote for NDP, although there's no chance of them ever forming government, although if the liberal scandal gets even worse, NDP might end up forming the official opposition. I know NDP definately isn't going to win in my riding, but I'll still vote for em', and my dad is actually friends of the Liberal candidate for the riding...ick. Fred Derf Veteran Posted March 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 9, 2004 lol i can see this poll is gonna turn into a joke....... but i pick liberals. Liberals. I blame Chretien for the current sponsorship scandal (and the HR boondoggle and the Gun Registry overruns). I think Paul Martin represents a different approach. He's going after the sponsorship scandal pretty aggressively. It's only a few weeks old and people have already been fired and steps have been taken. Instead of shying away from the scandal and pretending that it didn't happen or that there were more "pressing" concerns, Paul went on CBC TV and spend several hours explaining what he knew and what he plans to do about it. It was bloody candid for a politician. Not the typical gobblegook that we're used to.

Fred Derf Veteran Posted March 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 9, 2004 In spite of this poll, the NDP are expected to do a lot better in the upcoming election. Unless the Liberals rebound that is. The Conservatives have a problem. Tony Clement is probably the most electable (at least in terms of getting valuable Ontario and Quebec seats) yet he is the least likely to win the leadership because of his finances and the way they need to sell $10 memberships to get the leadership. Belinda has no polical experience and she'll never stand up to a Paul Martin directly. And Steven Harper is too well connected with the old Alliance party to gain any new support. Traditional Tories are not likely to vote for him (especially in Ontario and Quebec).
Silvorgold
grr i hate when i accidently close browser windows.. I've met stockwell day (a-hole), john manley (i wouldnt want to see him as pm and good thing i didnt), bill blaikie (runner up for NDP leadership... really good guy), seen peter mckay walk by and come talk to some people infront of the supreme court when i was in ottawa, but i thought he was just some mp for the alliance or something, saw alexa mcdonnugh walk by and she looks 10 years older than on tv, saw chretien walk by, met a few mp's, met a few senators, met the returning officer for elections canada, geez i cant even remember who else... my dad might be getting a membership to the liberal party, although im against the liberals, I never knew what was so good about the NDP until I found out that Tommy Douglas was an alumni at my university, I have a form for the NDP membership (5 bucks i think for university students), but i'm too lazy to bother yet, I was going to get a membership for the PC party last year but then the whole merger came out and about and freaking ****ed me off. NDP/CCF was close to winning a federal election once.. but only once, and then the liberals/tories adopted lots of the CCF policies right before the election and the CCF lost, people fear the CCF/NDP but theres nothing to fear about them though. I want to vote NDP but if the candidate is a nobody that nobody's ever heard of nor has a career that people can relate to (walmart teller lmao jk), then I might as well vote for my dad's old friend (Liberal candidate), since the guy is a farmer and I would trust a farmer over a business man anyday :s If there was an election in 20 years with famous sons of former party leaders, It would be funny to see an election with: Justin Trudeau (Liberal) Ben Mulroney (Conservative... ugh I cant stand him) Kiefer Sutherland (NDP)

Fred Derf Veteran Posted March 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 10, 2004 Thanks a bunch. The Liberal Party sure seems to be making a big deal out of the change of a logo. Aren't there more important things? It's also worth noting that Canadians don't actually vote for their Prime Minister. You vote for your local representative (Member of Parliament). The party that gets the most "seats" elected gets to install their leader as Prime Minister. So, while I might love Paul Martin, if my local liberal canditate is a clown I either have to hold my nose and vote for him anyway or I have to vote for the best local canditate regardless of party. The latter strategy is actually recommended.

neowin_hipster
Paul Martin is as corrupt as the rest of them. I haven't had respect for liberals since forever. I can't stand NDP because they're a bunch of socialists. They've ruined bc and ontario. I'm voting for my local alliance candidate again, He does a good job, but now the conservatives are all looking to get ontario and appeal in ontario because ontario decides who runs this place. **** ontario. They already get everything from the feds. Right now i don't really think any party, or prime minister is worth it. My local MP is excellent so whatever party he goes with i vote for. You are way out on ALL of your points. Ontario does not already "get everything" from the Feds. Ontario taxpayers subsidize BC - not the other way around. There are only two provinces in Canada that are self-sufficient. Ontario and Alberta. Everyone else comes hat in hand to Ottawa for handouts. It's called Equilization Payments: Equalization Entitlements ? (2004-05) ($millions) NL PEI NS NB QC MB SK BC Total 721 245 1,137 1,148 3,691 1,330 452 785 9,510 http://www.fin.gc.ca/FEDPROV/eqpe.html Ontario was ruined far more by Harris/Eves then by anything the NDP did. I do blame the NDP for not installing a BC-style public auto insurance while they had the chance. Odds are that I'm paying double what you pay (or your parents more likely). neowin_hipster
Ontario taxpayers subsidize BC That's why even as a have not province, bc is paying lots more that we get back. Those equalization payments actually cut away from other funding. They've recently just announced they'd fund a few projects for once because of this alienation issue, but they are backing out once the media hype dropped. Tuition is like a small part of all the issues, I'm a student and i'm feeling the crunch, but we're still very cheap all things considered. Don't forget the NDP screwed everything up. They had **** poor project management skills. It's really quite amazing how short term our memories are. zivan56
I can't stand NDP because they're a bunch of socialists. They've ruined bc and ontario. Are you serious?? The liberals are the ones who ****** up BC. When the NDP was in power, everthing was nice and stable throughout BC. The liberals ****** up welfare, techbc, education in general, shipping industry, bc hydro, ICBC, etc...I could go on for hours! Its a good thing the latest polls suggest the NDP is at 49%, while the Liberals are at 32%. Anyways, when I go to vote, I vote for the communist party of Canada. I would rather have a single leader who controls everthing, rather than having a Bush controlled puppet (Martin)
