Ok so here's my $0.02 on that Scholes goal. He was quite clearly onside when the ball was played through to him BUT when he'd got it and was in an OFFSIDE position, he knocked the ball forward and then touched it again meaning that when the ball was played through to him the second time (from HIS OWN pass) he was offside.

If he'd have shot first time then it would have been a valid goal. Does that make sense? (Please only ppl who understand the offside rule) :)

no offence but you can't be offside from your own pass

by your logic if anyone runs past the last defender he has to shoot or he's offside

The offside rule clearly states that at the point of the pass. Thats the important line in the offside rule, At the pass. SO him touching it twice is not important. He had it then the defenders ran pass him, how can that be offside????

PPPPPPPPPPPPPOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRTOOOOOOO!!!! :D :D :D

FC Porto totally dominated the first match in Oporto, and now, in Manchester, in spite of all "mind games" done by Fergunsson in the press during the week, FC Porto showed that it's in the field that matters; it's in the field that a team shows whose better. FC Porto never gave up. It was a sad thing seeing Fergunsson's attitude. He should know how to loose. Manchester United is a great team and one of the best in Europe. Its coach should act according to it and not being so arrogant. Oh well... Probably he forgot that FC Porto is "only" the actual UEFA champion and one of the top 5 european best soccer teams, he he he.

erm.....as it happens, I'm a Man Utd supporter and I live just down the road. I also know that in football THERE IS NO UMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are called referees and linesmen :p or just simply officials :)

Porto are "only" the UEFA Cup champions - not the UEFA champions which (IMHO) hardly puts them in the "top five" bracket. When they get Real Madrid or Arsenal next round I think that their lack of class will show.

oh and LOL, by the way its Ferguson not Fergunsson (he's Scottish not Scandinavian) :D

ROFLMFAO - er.............u may have a point there

Forget I said anything

I think I'm just a little too ill (and p**sed off) to think straight.

if we are getting picky its also 'on the pitch' not 'in the field' :p

Scholes' first touch was more of control than anything, and there were THREE MEN playing him onside, i mean come on, if the linesman can't see that then there has to be something seriously wrong with him.

At the end of the day, united were poor, but Porto were poorer and united really didn't deserve to go out

(from one VERY ANGRY man utd supporter)
