the yankees has never played well against the rays, but still show up for the playoffs while your team chokes

That's right. the Yankees won the World Series last year...and the year before...and the year before....oh wait....they didn't.

Choke? I'd be embarassed if I had the highest payroll and didn't win with it.

no they won it 3 years in a row in 98-00, and its really ballsy to pick 29 teams to win the world series over just one team

Yeah, the funny thing is, a lot of people who love baseball hate the Yankees now because they go out and buy an all-star team, but:

1.) They already had a freakin all-star team before, they are stupid to think that getting to the World Series and not winning was an unsuccessful season. My Cubbies haven't been there in an eternity, I don't see why he dismantled the team, lost some pitching, but gained a massive amount of power.

2.) A-Rod isn't pleased with his order in the batting lineup, you can't please everyone, so many superstars, not enough role players

3.) Everyone hates them for bitching about not winning the World Series and then going out and using their ridiculous amount of resources to buy every big free agent in baseball, screw them, DOWN WITH THE YANKEES! GO CUBBIES!

lmao Yankee haters are funny.

Find something better to do with your life... spending all your energy on hating a baseball team that goes out and gets better players is just foolish.

If you were the owner of the Yankees and had incredible wealth, would you not do the same? It's a business and the Yankees are Sacks 5th Avenue while your teams are K-Mart and Walmart.

GG.

No, I wouldn't do the same thing, I'd hire the best scouts possible and bring in the best talent possibly, therefore, decreasing my ridiculous payroll, yet putting a good team out there that could possibly win the WS every year.

In all seriousness, they paid way too much for that roster, lol, Sheffield is a laugh.

where do you get off talking down to him like that? Your contribution to the thread was how much better?

i hate the yankees :bounce:

George uses his money for the team. There are very few teams, wit hthe Bosox being an exception, who put the money they make back into the team and not their own pockets.

Ok, I'm not an avid sports fan (maybe some college but not pro). What I find rediculous are the following things:

1) The fact that a player in a pro sport can get a $25 million dollar contract for 5 or so years. It's a shame that this much money is going to a person who just entertains society (this also includes movie actors as well). The way I see it, the higher salaries should go to the professions that count such as engineers and medical services. Also, I beleive education in the US suffers so much because of the horrible salaries teachers get and yet you have a guy that can hit a ball with a stick (and he may do that very well) without having received any secondary education and get paid in one year more than my entire family will see in a lifetime.

2) I find it horrible how bad the Cubs fans treated the poor kid that tried to catch that foul ball in the World Series last year. I guarentee you that all the people who almost killed him would have done the same thing if they were sitting there and saw a ball flying towards them. You know what it is to catch a World Series foul ball?? Priceless... and yet you have mornic people giving this poor guy death threats.

Sorry if this was a little off topic but that is how I view pro sports. This is why I like college sports because these kids aren't getting paid millions to play. They have to go to school, keep their grades up, and perform to the best of their ability because they love the game. (I'm not saying some pro athletes don't love the game)

Also, I do like and root for the Florida Marlins. They are my hometown team (as well at the Dolphins) and I will support them. I just hope they don't become arrogant as other players do.

Your logic sucks. I don't see how that's any different than what Steinbrenner does. Well, except for your flawed conclusion on reducing your payroll. Where did the reduction come from? (Scouts don't negotiate a player's contract.) Bringing in the best talent in the MLB means spending some serious cash. Of course, the talent is based on previous performances and that doesn't always guarantee that players will do their best in the current season.
