If it maps to a certain drive letter (like a CD-ROM, for example), you can use AveDesk. The way I have it set up is to display a CD-ROM icon with the label on the desktop when a CD is inserted. When the CD is ejected, the icon disappears. :)

Check out the Aqua-Soft forums for a download link: http://www.aqua-soft.org

Removable device as in a CD or floppy, or as in flash cards, etc?

Either way, I could probably only do it if it maps to a drive letter, but that would be pointless if Avedesk already does it.

I dl AveDesk, but it only updates the drive, so its just an icon that sits on the desktop and you can double click on it...

It doesn't remove itself after you remove the flash drive, it just sits there uselesssly :(

But yes those kind of removable devices, I just want a proggy that will pop up an icon when one is inserted (like on OSX) and then it goes away when that device is removed.

got this news from aqua-soft.

DeskDisk is a small application that displays shortcuts to mounted media types on the desktop. For example if you insert a CD into your drive, a CD icon appears on the desktop, if you connect to a network share, a shared resource icon appears etc...This also works for USB drives, RAM drives, DVD-ROM drives and possibly a lot more.

Even better, the CD eject feature works exactly like on a real Mac i.e. if you eject the CD, the icon disappears from the desktop. Here's a list of actions that will trigger the CD eject feature.

    * Manually press the Eject button on the drive

    * Right-click the drive and select 'Eject'

    * Click an 'Eject' button on ObjectBar

    * Drag the icon to the Trash Can (Recycle Bin)

This works very well for USB drives too. If you drag the USB drive to the Trash Can, the program prepares the drive for safe removal and notifies the user when the drive has been dismounted.

I read the forum and here's a link to remove the spyware from your system, unfortuantly the developer has not stated whether or not he put the spyware in there intentionally or not...
