Microsoft's income halves but revenues up

SOFTWARE FIRM Microsoft said it only made $1.28 billion operating income for its third financial quarter, half that of its opeating income of $2.74 billionin the same quarter last year. But revenues were up by 17%, said Microsoft, amounting to a cool $9.18 billion up to the 31st of March this year. Microsoft had some expenses to pay and take into account, including payments to Sun and possible payments to the European Union.

Net profit after adjustments amounted to $1.89 billion, compared to $2.14 billion in the same quarter last year. The firm claimed that all the MS businesses met or exceeded its expectations. Microsoft said the current financial quarter will deliver close to $9 billion in revenues. Profit will be around $2.8 billion. It expects the whole year to deliver about $38 billion in revenues and profit of around $16 billion.
