Aparently your recomendations for Gaming and multimedia are difficult to come by.

I looked at New Eggs hundreds of LCDs and found one 15" LCD and on $700 17" LCD that satisfy your recommendations.

>- Response Time: 16ms or lower

>- Contrast Ratio: 400:1 or higher

- Brightness: 400cd/m2 or higher

The Samsung 172X-Silver, which surpasses all the gaming recommendations, clocks in under $600.

Here is a 4 page guide on buying a LCD written by Mr Magoo for Neowin.

Read it here, comments are welcome.

LOL, I wrote 100% the guide. Mr Magoo was nice enough to publish it on Neowin, and he also did a nice job at formatting it and adding a few images. I find it a tiny bit annoying that some people cant read the first line of the guide and see who wrote it. Of course Mr Magoo is a great guy and I certianly dont think its his fault in any way.

That Samsung monitor looks great, with excelent response time and great contrast ratio, but the brightness is a little lacking at only 270 cd/m2. If they would re-release that model with a 350/400+ luminance rating then it would be an absolute killer monitor.

I think out of all LCD manufacturer's Samsung make the best, i've owned my one for about 4 years now, not even one dead pixel, furthermore i use it everyday, no kidding, and use it for long hours the colours are nice it's nice on the eyes, i have had cousins who have new Sony ones, and honestly Sony sucks at making LCDs, they just have a nice name and a crazy price tag, but i believe Samsung are the best of them all.

nice guide - and I have been in the market for one..

My biggest question points to Photoshop CS - so if any users here use LCD monitor and Photoshop CS, how do they work together??

I only ask, because i'm solely a designer when it comes to my computer. No games, no videos etc. Just design.

cheers

An informative article on the LCD monitors. I have a brand new LCD TV from Ben Q a 30 inch wide screen. Your topic on dead pixel just scared the hell out of me, as I have already invested a huge sum on this monitor I am worred about the dead pixel. Mind you I like the look and feel of this product. Would you kindly review this product BenQ D3070. By the way I have connected my PC to the DVI connector and the graphics are much better.
