Maxtor Unveils First Cable DVR Storage Solution

MILPITAS, Calif., April 27, 2004 - Maxtor Corporation (NYSE: MXO), a worldwide

leader in hard disk drives and consumer storage products, announced today its

QuickView? portfolio of consumer hard drives will include an external storage

offering. The Maxtor? QuickView Expander drive will enable digital video

recorder (DVR) owners to readily add-on up to 160 hours of recording time to

their existing units. First of its kind, the QuickView Expander emphasizes Maxtor's

commitment to develop and market application-specific storage solutions for emerging

categories such as consumer electronics.

The new QuickView Expander offering leverages the core technology of Maxtor QuickView

consumer electronics (CE) hard drives, which power over 80 percent of today's

DVRs worldwide. Maxtor QuickView CE drives are designed for consumer applications

and offer exceptional performance and advanced features that enhance the digital
