who uses this? you can always get the neowin theme patcher which works a hell of a lot better than style xp and you don't have to worry about the ugly themes being installed.

I do, alot of companies don't allow patching their computer OS's system files and StyleXP will come in handy if Im bored with Luna or Classic.

lol. So you cant apply the patch yourself but its ok to install a program that patches it for you?

I think that everyone's objection to stylexp has to do with tgtsoft charging people for a program that illegally modifies a file so people can use unsigned visual styles.

I would bet that if this was a freeware or shareware program...then it would be so crappy.

It doesn't modify the file at all, all it does is patch it in the memory, so it can be easily disabled and the evil IT admins won't be able to find out you messed with the system files.

also style XP now allows Login/Boot screens....transparency/icons.....rotation of themese/logins/boots/icons....

anotherwords it's more expanded...

and so what if the guy wants to charge....he may have worked hard on it with some and decided he was not going to just be kind and let people use it for free...

1. TGTsoft sued Stardock so they could use the .ip or .iptheme file format in their program instead of having to use iconpackager......hasn't worked out for them

2. Tgtsoft is charging for a program that all it does is illegally changing the digital signature of a file so more visual styles can be used. This basically is the same as locksmith who makes duplicates of keys that say 'do not duplicate', which is against the law.

If the person/people involved in doing this did it as an opens source project or released it as freeware....then maybe it might be worthwhile.

what's with the two download links? ladies and males

different visual styles come with them. some with colors that females would be more likely to enjoy and ones for men.

You say negative things about StyleXP whenever you see the chance to do so. You don't like it and you don't use it. We get the point, but we really don't care. People on this site, and many other sites, do use StyleXP because they don't want to hack their system themselves. Is this so wrong? If Microsoft didn't like what TGT Soft and StyleXP was doing, they would put a stop to it by sueing them.

For your information, StyleXP does not modify files!

It patches the uxtheme service in memory so it bypasses the digital signature check. StyleXP doesn't touch your system DLLs.

Also could you please tell me why the hell this would be illegal? If it really would be illegal, don't you think Microsoft would have taken some action against TGTSoft?

Besides that I don't get all that b*tching about TGTSoft. They offer a product that allows you to use 3rd party themes and does more then that (mentioned by others). You can buy it or you can leave it. What is wrong with that?

If you won't want to buy it you can get a hacked uxtheme.dll for free from their website.... I don't see the problem.

That is my problem right there. It's truly not that they patch a file (whether that is done physically or done in memeory) but it's that they charge for a product...but then also offer a free version that does exactly the same thing.

And when you use stylexp to change your bootscreen...you are actually hacking your files. It replaces the logonui.exe with one of your choice. So if you choose a corrupt one...it can make things very difficult for you.

StyleXP doesn't touch your system DLLs.

Which is also not true....it does use your uxtheme.dll and the theme service to apply a visual style. It patches the uxtheme.dll in the memory (which in earlier versions actually replaced it)

I don't see the problem here.... they charge you for a totally different product then the free version.

The free version is nothing more then a hacked DLL, while StyleXP does a lot more (wallpapers, icons, bootscreens, creating themes). Again if you don't want to pay for it then just don't! Get the free version.
