yup i agree wif everyone here.

applications are just WAY TO EXPENSIVE.

like if photoshop was $100 id buy it, and macromedia products were around $100 id get that too

but honestly not many ppl are millionaires and can afford dreamweaver at $1500 or whatever it is to buy

ill stick to my warez coz i know that for the cost of my monthly internet bill, i can afford what i want to get.

i think companys should be glad that ppl are using their software.

if i made a program like photoshop, and it was used in 80% of worlds computers, i would like to get payed for it, but id get more satisfaction that all those ppl are using my program.

make sense? hope so

another good reason: why pay $1500 for something when u can get the exact same thing for free?

but yeh thats my thoughts.

im a warez monkey and to be honest, im proud of it.

I try to treat others the way I'd like to be treated.

In other words, if I am selling a product I wouldn't appreciate poeple stealing it. I would hope poeple would buy my products.

and as such, I can not agree with the concept of warez.

personally, I just try to buy the ACD stuff...

Are there any developpers here because I wanna know what they think!

I am a developer for an environmental services company that has a few software products on the market. Given the nature of this market, there isn't really problems with warez or piracy.

However I am also part of a development team that is working on some new products and the markert these products will be released in is full of warez (think general consumer market) and piracy. Are we worried about it? Not really, most of our products will be sold for between $20 to $100, and most will be backed by technologies we have developed that will be licensed to other companies. If people decide to pirate our software then so be it, of course we would love to see some support from those who choose to use our software, but there's not much that can be done about it.

Part of our solution is that we are offering free versions (slimmed down of course) of almost all of the software we develop. I'm not talking about so slimmed down that its crap or ad supported, I'm talking about versions that just might now have all the features that the full version does.

I personally have no problem with people downloading software to try it out, but if you find it so usefull that you have to have it, save up some money over time and then go out and buy it. I realize alot of software is expensive and it is just as easy to go out and warez it, but developers suffer when the company they work for is losing money to warez. In addition consumers lose out, think about it, Windows and Office XP probably wouldn't had the Activation systems built-in if it wasn't for warez and piracy. In the end the only people being hurt by this are consumers who are using the software legally (well maybe they installed it on more than one system...).

I have a love/hate relationship with Microsoft in that Office is so damn expensive, but Visual Studio is relatively inexpensive, especially if you purchase only one of the products (like Visual Basic or C#). I use DreamWeaver and Photoshop rather religiously, but both are way too expensive for what they do compared to other similiar products... I just happen to have a job that permits me to afford such software.

This is of course not an issue that is going to go away, especially in the Windows software market (not much of a problem for other OS's). Maybe though the open source community will start to port some of their really good software (there is alot) to Windows. I know this may seem contradictory to what they are trying to do (bring people to Linux essentially), but it would not only help out consumers and those who can't afford brand-name products, but it would also provide Linux with a way to entice Windows users. I know this is somewhat off topic, but I do see open source (not necessarily free) and low-cost (not necessarily open source or free) software as the solution to this problem of expensive software.

I'm a developer... and i would not care if people stole my **** if i worked for a company that was trying to charge people like 6900 bux for it... software packages like vs.net that cost well over a thousand bux?? who can afford that ****? if i was in charge of the price, people could actually afford the **** and they wouldn't have to warez it

Why should Microsoft not charge over $1,000 for Visual Studio? I mean it is not just one program that you are getting, have you actually ever seen what you get with VS? Besides the programming language programs that come in VS can be purchased for around $100 a piece, and that's a pretty good deal I think.

If companies didnt charge so much, people would pay

Really?! Is that why there are so many warez copies of Winzip, WindowBlinds, WinRAR, Opera (Full Version), etc. around? All of these programs are relatively inexpensive, usually being around the $20 mark, so is that too much still?

While I agree cost is a large determining factor, many people do warez simply because they can. It is the thought that your (I'm not excluding myself as I am guitly of supporting warez at times) needs outweight those of the developer or vendor of the software.

I have a job now and so i don't warez, well i do but i make an evaluation of the software downloaded and delete it or go and buy it when i've decided if it's worth my money. But as i asked in an earlier post, how are people who are new to computing, and who can't afford to make a significant investment in the cost of software supposed to learn when the cost of said software is so prohibitively expensive?

I think that the majority of people who post that warez are bad, have jobs and can afford to buy software and so now "warez is evil". you are like reformed alcoholics that preach to people that drinking is bad cause you don't drink anymore. warez is a necessary evil until you have a job and can afford to buy it.

if you can afford the software, and continue to warez, or if you continue to warez when the software you have is inexpensive? then you are simply a jerk!

It's unbeleivable people try to find a reason why it's morally sane to get Warez.

It's simply stealing.

I'm a developer, and I know it takes a long long time to develop software. It's not because the CD is cheap or that the files containing the software are easily copied that you have to do all this.

Would you have stolen an expensive painting toolkit (a real one) from a shop? I guess not. So why do you think it's better to steal Photoshop?

If the price is so high, there's a reason to it.

The people who develop the software, do just that. It's not a hobby and they need to sell their software. If you want to try software, get the trial version. If you can't afford software don't steal it, or if you do, don't say it's ok.

i think warez actually helps companies make money buy making copy proof technologies, etc. even though there will always be ways around it, warez is just like the everyday rolling the stop sign, and the police get paid to try to stop it.

its kinda like if there wasnt any viruses, companies such as symantec or mcafee wouldnt profit from them.

theres my 2 cents

Software priced too expensive does not in any way constitute warez. There is something called "Academic Edition". At edu.com you can the the "design collection" from adobe including photoshop 7 for only 395.95.
