.wsz?

Most of the time, when you download winamp's skin, they come with .wsz extension. After you completed the download, the file execute itself, and change your winamp skin. Anyway, my question is, is there anyway we can stop these file extension from executing itself? What if somebody send you this kinda file and mistakenly complete the download, it execute itself, turned out it was a backdoor?

In win2k, I open up an explorer window > tools > folder options > file types tab > delete the wsz format

configure, what you describe (back door) could not happen unless you set it up to do so. wsz files open in Winamp because that is how Winamp has configured your system, so they open and change the skin by default. Because a wsz file is just a zip file with a different extension, there is no way for one to do harm to your system in any way.

Winamp Skin Zip (wsz) files are non-executable, the only way it becomes automatically executed is if you have set up your PC to do just that.

Play around with the file associations and see if you can prevent this.

Personally I download Britney Spears skins, for obvious reasons (I wish she was my girlfriend) :ninja:

PabUK, configure could be right. Theroetically, WSZ is ZIP. Since virus can be in ZIP files, I think it is possible that WSZ can be infected as well. But I am not 100% sure of this. If you rename WSZ to ZIP, then you can decompress the file.
