jesus, they still use the shroud system for cpu cooling>??

my moms 4100

why cant dell do that ::::?"""":???

584801171[/snapback]

well i imagine they could, but how long did it take you to do that? i imagine a fair few hours. if dell did it, they would have to pass the extra cost down to us, the consumer. so whilst they might not be as neat and tidy inside as a alienware, they are significantly cheaper.

for those who say you dont save a lot of money buy building it yourself, take a look at this:

Compare between the two....Not only is the system superior, but you know what you're geetting. Not 1gb of Ram, but 2x512 of OCZ DDR500 (PC-4000), and so on. BTW, nice buy man. Im not flaming or anything, im just giving an example of how much you can save. i bet your system rocks HARD!!! BTW, all prices from Newegg

Nice system you put together, but it is missing a PCI-E chipset, 1gb of DDR2 PC533 ram, 2x 10k rpm sata drives in a raid 0 config, Geforce 6800 GT is slower than a X800 XT, an operating system, the couple of hours it takes to throw it together, and is over $400 more than what I paid for my dell.

Wow, you really need to clean up those wires in there to increase air flow

Are you talking about my computer? If you look later in the thread, I actually did try to clean it up to improve airflow...

Unless you still think I need to clean that up?? Can't think of much more I would do though.

Yeah the glow kicks ass. I wish I was as knowledgable with this stuff as you are. Heck, I dont even trust myself to not screw something up completely.

Its not nearly as hard as it seems. :) For anyone with an XPS, I'd highly recommend browsing the forums here: http://xpsmodz.proboards33.com/ . Theres a TON of great information on all sorts of mods people have done with all generations of the XPS, and anything else related to the XPS line. (Y) (Y)

Hi im new here and i have the same cpu as you rumbleph1sh. yeah the fans are very annoying and i was wondering how you modded it. i am a noob when it comes to this and was wondering where you got the fans at. i was also wondering what brand the fan was on the heat sink and on the front case. also i was wondering if i needed to purchase anything else besides the fans inorder for the new fans to run.

Thanks,

Steve

great system dude

and aboutthe build-your-own, that's all BS. It's good when you are locked up in a college dorm and have nothing better to do... but once you have a life, aint much time to build a PC.

Just buy a kick-a$$ machine (like the one you got) and upgrade it with time. In the end, it may even turn out better than a build-your-own 'cause you got the tech support :p

I recently married the above system with a 37" Sharp HDTV (LC-37GD4U) and it works like a charm. When idle, I run the Aquarium screen saver, which adds a little flair to the livingroom.

I used your "go-by" and rounded out my cables and am currently working on the fans.

Thanks for your he:yes:d God bless.

I love people that complain about the noise of their "gaming system". I currently have 4, 80mm fans (adding 2 more in a couple days) plus the cpu fan, 1 slot fan, fan on vid card, and 1 in PSU. Sure it ain't quite but that's a great reason to buy some big "gaming" speakers and crank'em up like me. That way it doesn' t matter how many fans, the speakers blow them fans away.

I appreciate your comments, however I would prefer a quite machine. Noisy fans are just that, noisy. Dell could have spent the extra $5 per fan and produced a machine that was a good AND quite performer. I should not have to drowned out noise with....other ummm other noise.

Congrats on your noisy machine! ;) I myself prefer not to have my computer sound like a lawn mower when its on.... maybe its just me but it seems pretty ridiculous to have to drown out the noise by turning up your music loud.

@rizenfenix: nice machine man. can't wait to hear what you think of the new 2005FPW monitor too. if you want to find more info on modding the XPS (all generations) you should check out the forum here: http://xpsmodz.proboards33.com/index.cgi :)

Yeah I like noise.

(Off Topic)

That's why recently I cut off the muffler on my truck. (1993 Dodge). I don't like how they had it set-up, so I took off the muffler and the exiting about 6ft. of exhaust. Muffler had big hole in it anyway. I enjoy scaring the crap out of people when you pass them with this thing just rumbles by. Sounds good though, just very loud. As loud as them sporty motorcycles people have.

I also go racing, as a crew memeber at local short tracks. (LOTS OF NOISE) lol :D
