[Alpha] Pop Goes the GMail

Question

Pop Goes the GMail

PGtGM has been discontinued. Please use http://www.gnotify.com/gpopper/ instead!

PGtGM sits between you GMail account and your email client, converting messages from the web based mailbox into POP3 messages that a program such as Outlook Express or Firebird can understand.

POP3 server now fully works. You are able to download gmail emails through any email client. SMTP server appears to work.

Please post any bugs you find in the login process to the thread, or problems displaying messages.

Great work on the new version. I love the attachment support for incoming mail.

I see that 0.7 should allow connecting to the server from remote clients, not just the local machine running PGtGM. I must be a little dense right now because I can't seem to get that working. What do I need to do to get that set up?

Thanks.

Im getting the following error, when trying to start PGTGM

An Exception 'System.Net.WebException' has occurred in POP Goes the Gmail.exe.

Disabling my firewall doesnt solve this, im not running anyother program like yahoopops

I hope you can fix this :(

you sure no programs are using/blocking the pop3/smtp port? also are you using the internet through a proxy? that could also be the cause.

The next version will include a detailed debug log, so we can solve stuff like this

Im not using any proxies.

Avast antivirus does have asomething with the pop3/smtp ports.

My email app (thunderbird) is set up with pop3/smtp server: 127.0.0.1 default ports

The email first goes through Avast and then in my inbox. Already tried disabling Avast but that didnt help.

I hope this will be solved and im definatly willing to do testing, so looking out for the next version :)

What a brilliant idea for a program. I don't have a GMail account since I have <300 posts - I use SpyMac which offers 1GB as well as most of you know I'm sure. If/when I signup for an account I'll probably use this in junction with Thunderbird.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was the cause of your job interview with Google.

Put the program in your startup menu, then Right Click on it -> Properties -> Shortcut -> Run -> As Minimized

Now it will start, and automatically go to the tray.

This could be implemented easily in the program to make it easier for people who don't know there way around Windows.

btw everytime I run pgtgm it will pop out and I'll have click "OK" for it to minize to sys tray... which u could implement a check option so it'll start minized on its own :)

adding multiple account checking would be another great feature too!

I was having the same problem as smokiethebandit, fowen, and dbasulto. I then ended my instance of YahooPOPs (does the same for yahoo email accounts) and it now runs fine. I probably won't be using it to d/l emails (unless I expect to be connection-less and want an email archived while on the road), and just for notification, but do you think there will be a way to allow both to run? I have no idea how these webmail-to-pop converters work (or much else, for that matter), so I guess I'm just curious.

Thanks for the program,

Ed
