this has so brought back memories... the after dark (?) screensaver of the ferrets racing is an all time favourite... the osbourne screensaver was COOL! I want like a Big Brother Style screensave with just people walking around doing random things... any ideas?

burn in isnt a problem on newer CRTs though, and whenever i leave my computer, i just shut the monitor off

Then tell me why I had to throw away a 2 year old 17 inch Sony monitor. Whatever is said about newer CRTs, they still suffer from burnin.

As I said, if you crank up the extras it's gonna absolutely kill your pc. I'm on a 3200+ with a 9600XT and 1.125 gigs of ram and it just poops on my pc with anymore than 1 on the particles.

Same config except it's an All-in-Wonder and I have no problem in 1152x864 32bpp with 10 fireworks (from 5 default) and 5 smoke particles (from 0 default).

Now that I'm back to work, time to install some new screensavers here also.

BTW I let SS run for 10-15 minutes after which the screen only goes to sleep to save energy. When in sleep, CRT consumes only 10-20% of normal operation.

Depends on what category of screensavers we're talking about, but these are my favourites - sorted by category but not ranked (they're all great).

Funny: Johnny Castaway

Relaxing: SereneScreen Marine Aquarium 2 Time (very slick, but not freeware)

Demoscene style: Blinkenlichten and the Really Slick Screensavers series

Thanks about Flurry. It's smooth and fun to watch when listening to some ambiant.. (w/420).

I wish the hot spot would go all around the screen instead of remaining mostly in the center.

Anyway, nice find.

Right now though, I'm using the simple AlphaDim, a free saver that uses 2000/XP's transparency feature to dim your screen when idle.  http://erorus.arsware.org/alphadim.php

does anyone know where I can find this screensaver, the link is dead, and the screensaver is nowhere to be found on that site.

Industrial Clock screensaver tops it.

Which one is that?
