First of all, you yanks should learn to use the correct term for football. It's NOT called soccer by anyone else in the world. Well, maybe so you yanks know that we're not talking about your NFL. NFL is NOT football. It might be called RUN-ball, THROW-ball, KICK-ball or HAND-ball, but NOT FOOT-ball. In proper football, the players actually use their FEET to kick the BALL, hence it's name...

Just for the record; I find both very boring

Guess what? They also kick the ball with their feet in American Football as well.

This Soccer/Football argument is pointless. Since the majority of english speakers here consider Football to be American Football, not soccer, we will continue to call it Soccer.

The only reason that so many people play soccer is because of its simplicity. However it is this simplicity that makes it so boring. I played it for 10+ years when I was younger and I'm not really bagging it but compared to watching/competeing in other football codes it's on the bottom. It's not very often that I can sit down and watch a whole game (yes I'm talking about FA/Euro matches, not the dinky local ones) without getting a bit bored.

Arguments belitteling yanks (and aussies and whoever else) for calling it soccer are also pretty senseless. Every country that actually plays more than one football code needs to differentiate between the codes. In Australia for instance we have 3 major football codes, not including soccer, so we need to be able to easily tell the differance when we are talking. As an aside, everyone outside of the States calls US football Gridiron yet I've never met an american tell me off for calling it that rather than football...

What a pointless topic, if you dont like something, the dont like it.... in silence!!!

a... Its called football. The game was around a long time before American football. If you guys want to call your version of the game "American football" thats fine, but we called it "football" FIRST!!!

b... I have to say I'm not a big fan of football, but its a social thing, whether its going to the park with your mates a quick game, or going to the pub to watch "the big game"

c... ITS CALLED FOOTBALL :p

And who are you to say it is called FOOTBALL and we should call if football instead of soccer?

Because hes just told you the reason why!!

sheesh some ppl

I say us Brits make it a sport that involves hitting a ball into a basket goal with a hockey stick on ice and we will call it basketball. (yeah lets rip off ice hockey like American football has with rugby).

Then we will change the game of basketball to handball and see if that annoys the yanks like it annoys us with football.

Anyway Football is quite exciting to watch imo with the right teams (obviously).

How can anyone say (ie: jim-phelps) that is the most boring sport ever is just beyond belief.

They obviously havnt watched Cricket, Golf or Darts.

Differant strokes for differant folkes I 'spose. I find cricket is normally more enjoyable to watch than soccer. Then again, if I was given the choice between the recent Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe series I'd rather watch the Millwall v ManUtd FA Cup final...

since we're talking about boring sports JayGorman brought up a good point. WTF is this NASCAR crap. r they serious? people watch 50cars turn in a clockwise circle for 300 laps and find it exciting? How about a real racing sport like F1.

Anyone see that Jeremy Roenick interview on ESPN when he was knocking every major US sport except for hockey? He said some really rude (funny) stuff. "watching baseball is like watching grass grow" he also mentioned that an average football player actually plays and entire 3mins of the game while the rest is just play decisions, lining-up and plays that only last 10secs.

And who are you to say it is called FOOTBALL and we should call if football instead of soccer?

Because football (soccer to you) is played with the feet!! While American Football is NOT.... the one who chose the name football for that sport must be the biggest idiot ever.

That makes more sense, but think about it, us Americans like to be different than everyone else

Soccer is boring because big clubs try to "buy" first place, with some EGOcentric players (Beckham, Kluivert, etc..) and forget Soccer is a TEAMsport just like American Football...

Ever since the realy big money (transfers of well over a 100Million bucks) came in to play in 1988, Soccer is more like a big money thing rather than a Teamsport. That's why some countries fail to perform as a TEAM in the world or european championships.
