oldmate15
So when I try to run Opera, it uses 100% cpu, and lags considerably bad. Also crashes every time I click something. This is very annoying. I downloaded the latest version (7.5) and it does the exact same thing. Yesterday I ran full virus and ad-aware scans, didnt pick up on anything. dreamthief
Might be corrupted installation files. Here's one solution that might work.... uninstall your Opera..... through ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Next, go to PROGRAM FILES, remove the OPERA directory. Then, (I assume you are using Win XP), go to C:\Documents and Settings\(User ID)\Application Data. It's a hidden folder, remove the Opera directory as well. This directory contains profiles, settings and etc for opera. This should fully allow you to install a "clean" version. Hope it helps. oldmate15
Few more things: It works fine when a page is loaded, but when I click a link or type in an address and hit enter, all the problems occur. It wont load faster than 1kbs, and I am on a cable connection. It wont even let me scroll when a page is loading. Digital.K
Did you install 7.5 or a previous installation? That could be causing your trouble. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/170962-opera-is-not-working/#findComment-2170352 Share on other sites
oldmate15
I already had 7.23 installed from a long time ago, I use it all the time. It just started happening with that, so I decided it was time to update, I downloaded 7.5 and still have had the same problem. Hat Fanatic
I'd remove the traces from previous Opera installations from /Documents and Settings/ if I were you. Make sure to back up your mail folder if you're using Opera for mail. I forgot exactly where the Opera folder is located, you'll have to look for the folder. Do a search for "Opera" in /Documents and Settings/, it's a hidden system folder in the root directory of the HD you installed Windows on.
