darkmark327
I have not been able to test it with dial-up per se, but it should work as long as you have a functional internet connection; after you connect to the internet, give it a few seconds before you try searching for updates or setting your location as both require you to be connected. I know when I've tested it by disabling my network connection (and thus the internet), that after I re-enable it, it takes a few seconds to actually work with the connection. Ethere
I must say, this is the best weather app I've seen in a very long time. Puts the normal weather.com app to shame :) I was wondering, would it be ok to do a story on this app and put it on GetSkinned.org?

It has a bunch of improvements, and there are 2 bugs I have to fix.
Spyder Veteran Posted July 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 11, 2004 The temperature in the tray bug probably has to do with the timer that normally draws the icons when you have both enabled (which I'm guessing you don't)...when it updates the data, I seem to have forgotten to have it call that update (since normally the timer would handle it). ... As for the right-side night forecast, I'll have to examine that. Does it start out fine and then become like that after a while, or is it like that from the start? As for the bottom box touching status bar issue, I think I see what you mean (the view toolbar being higher from the bottom than the others, which I've already fixed) but I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to. At any rate, thanks for the feedback...I want it to be perfect too! Awesome. Glad you enjoy feedback :) I'll answer each paragraph from the quote.. 1. You're exactly right. I only have it displaying the time and not an icon so theres no switching going on. 2. Everything starts out fine but it seems that over time, the more I resize the window, the lines/boxes start to shift a little. 3. When the program starts out, it looks like the top picture. In all views, the View box is slightly higher than the bottom most box next to it. However, the bottom most box started touching the status bar for me at one point but i've been unable to replicate it. I've tried to simulate what it looked like in the bottom picture. that line in all views was touching the status bar. Instead of simply disappearing though, it almost seemed to overlap and made a weird white-ish line. Unfortunately I can't make it happen again. Spyder Veteran Posted July 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 11, 2004 Was trying to replicate it just now and had the program crash on me. I've emailed you the crash information :)
darkmark327
OK thanks. I've fixed 1 & 2, and am in the process of fixing two more crashes: one when you restore the window after it's been in the tray for a while, and another when you close it after a while. I'm hunting those two down now; the "after a while" part is what makes it difficult ; ) As for #3, I'll try and see what's up with that. <-- What's with the stars changing? Iluvatar
hmm i keep getting this weird error after a couple of hours, i still think it has to do with the loss of internet connections. The dialog box error that is display always is corrupted when i get back and i cant press any of the buttons (hard to explain except that the display box looked all garbled) so i got this info out of the Event Viewer under 'System': Application popup: WeathAlert.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services : Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x6ac (1708), Thread id=0x6b0 (1712). Click OK to terminate the application. Click CANCEL to debug the application. AND #2 Application popup: WeathAlert.exe - No debugger found. : Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2 (2). Please check computer settings. cordbg.exe !a 0x6ac Click on Retry to have the process wait while attaching a debugger manually. Click on Cancel to abort the JIT debug request. Hope some of that helps.
darkmark327
That's odd; sounds similar to a bug earlier in the thread where everything was corrupt. This is going to be a tricky one : \
darkmark327
All right, so once I fix these three (or two at least) annoying bugs I'll release 2.2 Bugs: - Crash on restore after a while - Crash on exit after a while - Corruption after a while (probably related to previous two)

darkmark327
Thanks all. I'm glad it's so well liked. I think I've come up with a successful workaround for at least one of the bugs; hopefully the others are related to this and thus will also be fixed. I will do some internal testing tonight to see if it works, then release it for you all to test tomorrow. If this build works out I will (finally) release 2.
darkmark327
I am still attempting to eradicate those two bugs; the workaround mentioned above was not successful. Unfortunately due to the nature of them, i.e. that it takes many hours for them to manifest, my development cycle is basically to try something during the day, run it overnight, and see if it crashes the next morning. It drastically limits my ability to debug. Particularly since these errors do not point to any of my code. The worst-case scenario is that I simply put these two specific errors in a try-catch and ignore them, but I'd still like to know where the hell the null reference is. Let me know how it works out. It's on the first page as usual.

Iluvatar
its working great so far....no crashes (crosses fingers)....also would it be possible to implement a time delay for syncronization on startup? my network connection (wireless) usually is the last thing to load and a small 10 second delay for WeatherAlert's syncs would be great...that little balloon pops up everytime i reboot my laptop saying that "cached data must be used" or something.....thanks for a great program!!
