How to make the computer boot from a CD

Hi

Does this tutorial apply to XP? My Vista does not look like this or have any of these options.

-take care

Yes to boot off Windows Vista disk is done same way. Windows version won't effect anything stored in the BIOS generally so doesn't matter on what edition/type of Windows if it's on a disk and need to boot to install you should always have CD or DVD drive set as first boot priority.

This is what you originally posted.

depending on your BIOS and computer age etc there should be an option in BIOS along the lines of boot priority usually under HDD/Boot setup or advanced BIOS config settings then you select first priority to CD/DVD then save reboot and boot off disk, if this doesn't work then computer's too old or broken in someway.
My PC is new.

I could not move what was highlighted with the arrows like it said.

Do you have to have the windows CD in the PC when you do this procedure?

Thanks for replying

As was stated many times previously in this thread, there are a multitude of BIOS' out there, all having different screens/options. That was one of the original complaints of the guide. Please do not revive threads from this long ago. Just make a new thread in the appropriate section, or use the handy search tool (or even Google)!

Going on, no you do not need your Windows cd in the drive to get the boot options in your bios. Since your computer is new, you absolutely have the option to change the boot priorities. Press whatever key is necessary to get into your bios screen (whether it be F8, F2, etc.), and then navigate to the appropriate screen. I would use a program such as Belarc Advisor to find out what bios/bios version you have (plus the program is extremely useful for other reasons) and then go to the manufacturer's website for additional information.

Ok. I tapped on f12 while it was starting up. From there I navigated to a screen and changed it to boot from the CD first. I tried a system repair for vista with the CD. It searched for 1 second and said it could not find any errors. I am stating this for beginners benefit. I found this on a search.
