mko
If someone doesnt have an iPOD what's the use of the iPODservice in the application? can we remove it? If you don't have an iPod then I'd use a better media player like Winamp  IMO iTunes is only a necessity if you have a iPod. I find it pretty sluggish and not as well designed as Winamp. And can it interface with the leading online music store? Nope, didn't think it could. mko
Geee, can Winamp broadcast via wireless network to a set of speakers or a stereo somewhere else in your house? Well if Winamp started manufacturing Airport Express too then NATURALLY they'd need a program to interface the damn thing? Interfacing with a wireless broadcaster isn't any achievement, for a start you need to hardware before iTunes will even take advantage of it  And can it interface with the leading online music store? Nope, didn't think it could. Again, if Winamp wanted to open an online shop to make $$$ then yes, they could do that as well. So here let me re-phrase that again for you If you don't have AirPort Express/urge to pay for music then I'd use a better media player like Winamp And FYI there are plugins which allow Winamp to do better things such as have IR remote controls, LED outputs etc. Again its all about hardware. However given the choice, I'd rather use a computer with a sweet sound system attached then re-streaming over crappy quality radio waves ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/176036-itunes-46/page/2/#findComment-2258373 Share on other sites
versiondub
I'd rather use a computer with a sweet sound system attached then re-streaming over crappy quality radio waves ;) It's over wifi though - so it's data streaming, if I am right - which means there should be lossless quality. If it were not for the iPod support (and now airtunes), I would only use XMMS on OS X. iTunes is good, but I prefer a smaller and simpler player. It's over wifi though - so it's data streaming, if I am right - which means there should be lossless quality. Yep, it uses Apple Lossless, so if you rip things in that format originally, the Quality should be identical or better then a CD player playing the original disk. (Better meaning optical out compared to analogue on most CD players) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/176036-itunes-46/page/2/#findComment-2258412 Share on other sites

I wouldn't expect to have a lossless quality in a wireless data streaming environment where packet loss is common. Si Veteran Posted June 11, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted June 11, 2004 Lee,Jun 11 2004, 20:01] Is there much point in me using iTunes if i dont have an ipod or not? thanks. Depends, it has a great AAC (m4a/mp4) encoder and it is great at organising your collection. The ipod-ness can be disabled, so its your call :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/176036-itunes-46/page/2/#findComment-2261933 Share on other sites
