soccer is for guys people who cant play football (N)

whatever you say.. fool.

how is it that your game of "football" (as crappy as it is) has no bearing with playing with your feet.

lets take this in to perspective. soccer (urgh i hate that word) is the game of the world. every country loves it but America. The only country that likts american football is america. go figure

I just have one question, Why in the name of god a sport (wich is good and enjoyable) that is played with hands and only a few ocations with the foot is named FOOTBALL ?

Why a game (older than the other with a worldwide organization) is named by the U.S.A. people mostly Soccer, when is entyrely played with foot, and only the goalkeepers with hands????.....

Shouldn't the name of the American Football be AMERICAN RUGBY??????

Both games are good, i enjoy both of them, I like the physical action of the NFL and enjoy (mostly because i a a fan of a team called Chivas) the magic of the soccer.

"fool" ?... there is something called field goals, extra points, kickoffs, punts, all involving the "foot" genius

"fool" ?... there is something called field goals, extra points, kickoffs, punts, all involving the "foot" genius

Only done by one or two of the players....... or everyone in the team uses the feet somehow to kick the ball?????

I am not calling you a fool, i enjoy both games but disagree with the way you name the sports

Well in the US, soccer is for women, and guys who don't play football, that?s just how it is culturally, goes along with the "soccer mom" thing I am sure you know about

Yes I know in the rest of the world, soccer rules, and yes its my ethnocentrism to love football, but thats how the cookie crubles:D:D

Actually, it doesn't.  Football is two sports.  Soccer is one.  People who want to view NFL posts go into the wrong thread and vice versa.  Soccer is what it is called here.  No more discussion on it here.

Hah:woot:t: !!!

Football is one sport. The majority of the world agrees, even the Australian's call their version 'Aussie Rules'. So at the risk of upsetting a Mod, your wrong.:):)

Thanks for clearing that u:):)

Try and catch some of Euro2004 if you can to check out international football. Its like the world cup but for Europe - Once every 4 years

Yep, the US team of real football (FBI filter replace with soccer) is getting better, in the last world cup they defeated my beloved Mexico team (I disagree with the fifa ranking about Mexico, I love my Country team but there is no way that is currently better than Argentina) and advanced to confront Deutscheland, I hope we get our revenge in the next cup

Thanks for clearing that up :)

yeah i went to a would cup game back in 94... i think it was, it was alright, just not my thing

I am not even sure I would consider soccer a sport - it's great exercise for little kids, thats about it. Just my opinion, don't hate me for it. Most of the world loves it - I will never understand why.

Give it a few years, the fan base in the US is still growing up. They played it as kids, etc.. 20 years from now - it might be huge in the US, but for now it does not have much of a following.

Then, what do you consider a sport,???

Dude, it have a world cup, Its played by millions of peoples and even have an Olympic place....

When the US get their heads around it (I mean the older generation giving more support to the younger generation), I think they'll provide some formidable competition. From what I've seen of American sports fans they seem to be very passionate about the sports they know.

The only thing that worries me is the attempts to change to sport. A few years ago there was some cr*p about different scores for goals shot from different zones. That kind of stuff cannot be allowed to happen.

They also dont understand the offside rule :p and tried to scrap it

It is great for kids though. The rules are easy to understand, there is virtually no equipment required (compared to American Football or "Ice" hockey) and because there is little contact, there is little risk of injury. It's also one of the cheapest league sports to join (if not THE cheapest).

fred666 pretty much hit it on the head on why soccer is so popular around the world. Not every country has the resources of the US, soccer is a VERY cheap alternative to every other sport. Much like baseball, it requires little equipment, therefore much cheaper. America will probably never care about it, we have all our other sports that excite us. Do you think it is a coincedence that the best baseball and soccer players come from 'less fortunate' countries?

Baseball (aka rounders) is played by school girls here, i'd still say its a sports tho

axis: Man we aint poor we have basketball courts on parks and rugby fields, american football players don't need all the armor if they were prepared to take a beating
