I am trying to modify a visual style's start button. The VS is called Reluna.

First I got the PNG that is going to be used as the start button. Then I opened up the default Reluna start button bitmap in GIMP. I copied and pasted the new image into the appropriate places and replaced the file StartButton.bmp. When viewed in StyleBuilder or applied, the start button has a pink surrounding. I understand that this is because of the alpha layer in the original PNG image. Any idea how would I remove this?

Thank you. Let me know if my question wasn't clear.

if it's 255 0 255, then it's magic pink and it's the "transparent" color in bitmaps. if the theme specifies magic pink as the transparent color, then it won't show up.

you could also edit the image by changing the color. or you could extract the actual button and paste it onto the taskbar background image, saving it as a new start button bitmap.

You could just use LClock instead.
I would rather learn.

The transparency colour is pink. I think it's because the original image had an alpha layer and is not completely opaque.

That's a great idea. The only probleam is that the taskbar has a gradient.

I try that though.

The pink parts that are showing up are not really pink, so to speak. That is, those parts are not 255,0,255. Maybe it's 254, 0, 255 or something. Open up the StartButton.bmp in GIMP again, and closely examine the surrounding parts of the drive image. Ensure they are all 255, 0, 255.

That's exactly what I am trying to say. The original image is in PNG format and also has translucancy around it's edges. When I paste the image over a pink background a darker pink shows up. Is there anyway to remove the translucancy using GIMP?

Instead of using a bmp for the startbutton you could always use a regular png without any pink. When doing this with Stylebuilder make sure it's on TrueSize and all the sizing margins are at 0.
How do I set this "TrueSize"?

negative_0:

Take a brush of 1PX, select color 255, 0, 255 and with the brush paint ALL thats similar to pink on teh borders, and done

That's what I first thought of. I did that do the image but the it looked jagged because there was no fade.

Okay. I tried using a PNG image instead of a BMP image. Nothing changed. Although the image points to STARTBUTTON.PNG (the new image), there is no change. It doesn't matter how I apply the VS, though the display properties or through StyleBuilder itself. There is no change in the startbutton. Help?
